Composition, pose, lighting, background and ambiance.
Everything goes well together.
Not easy to get the dark skin to come out perfect ! 
Just curious about your lighting set up, even if I can see by the main and shawdow
how you did it.
Also, since I am exclusive distributor on planet Vietnam for Bowens flashes,
I am curious to know what you use.

Not much at all. Color rendition on the Nikon D750 is much better than the D7100 that it replaced.

I shoot strictly as a hobby, as well. I use two cheap, non-brand name strobe lights (under $200) with Alien Bees triggers. I'd love to get Bowens flashes, but I limit my budget on this hobby. I only own two cheap lenses, as well -- a 50mm f/1.8, and an old 24-105mm lens that I paid less than $100 for. For studio work, expensive lenses aren't necessary.

For this image, three strobes were used -- 1) a main light with beauty dish up high and pointing down onto the model's face; 2) a fill light; and 3) an accent light with snoot on the side and behind the model. In terms of lighting, there's no difference at all in shooting darker skin vs. lighter skin. The fundamental principles are the same.

Hi Early and thanks for taking the time to explain how you did it.
I use about the same lighting set up, I use either a soft box or an umbrella.
I sell Bowens, but I use flashes from Kuang Lin Industries - Taiwan (Brand name Daylite)
300ws. they are a lot less expensive, cheaper to repair and if not abused,
last as long if not longer than the Bowens,
I also sell the Falcon Eye from Hong Kong (But Made in China).
You are right about dark vs light skin,
no difference even if some photographers say you should over exposed by 0.5 to 1.0 stop.
By the way, I use an old Nikon D200 with a Nikon 17-55mm (?) or a Nikon 50mm F1.8
and I check my lighting with a Sekonic L308S even if I could use the much more expensive models
from my store (L758).
Audio or photography = keep it simple or basic.

Thank you.  I will post some more later.  I have so many pictures it is hard to decide what to post.  I loved the trip so much I am going back next year to a different location--Glacier Bay and vicinity. Closer to the trip time I will be soliciting recommendations for affordable, compact waterproof cameras.
