If you have space,   the Hawthorne Silver iris and augies  are excellent HT speakers.  Contact bob st.louis  , he'll tell you some great stories. :thumb:

I'm sorry but those speakers are not the ultimate answer for every speaker question asked.  I also think seeing that I am putting together the system for someone else that means they are not exactly "in the know" especially because I am not really "in the know".  Do you think OB's are wonderful for a beginner or someone who is not really interested in hobby of audio just a better then average system?

A lot of good stuff out there in that price range.  As you are well aware, av123 puts a pretty nice ht package together for a very reasonable price.

I'll throw you one from out of left field; (5) nOrh ceramic 4.0's and a sub or two(hsu, svs, av123).  Very clear and dynamic, which is great for home theater.  Would have $ left over to spare.

I would also look at used or diy; obviously more bang for your buck.

I'd suggest Monitor Audio Bronze B's with a HSU sub with the Turbocharger.  That would come in well under $2k with shipping and would probably even satisfy me for HT-only.  SaturdayAudio.com has a good price on them right now, with a price break on a 5 speaker set.  I have a (somewhat modified) pair of Bronze B2's hooked up to an NAD C320BEE at my PC and couldn't be happier for the price.  And from what I've heard a single VTF-3 HO Subwoofer with Turbocharger has more output than my pair of TN-1220's. :o  That's a lot of slam!
