giving Bugle Pro a USB output?
« on: 11 Jun 2007, 05:33 am »
What would be the simplest way for someone constructing the Bugle Pro to incorporate a USB putput like the Ripper provides? I'm not concerned with the physical/housing issues of installing a USB jack, but the wiring issues involved with wanting to integrate a USB output to my Bugle as part of a LP-to-digital phono pre. Could I just get a Ripper circuit and only construct and wire to and from the USB portions of it and install it in the Bugle chassis?

Thanks,
Benjamin

Well, the simplest way would be to use a RIPPER circuit board inside the BUGLE PRO chassis.  You would have to remote mount the gain control above the headphone jack.  It would replace the other boards.

The RIPPER project was originally called the BUGLE2.  It started out as a BUGLE circuit combined with a POWER SUPPLY circuit on one board.  Then I added the super-regulators from the HAGCLOCK.  It was a nice all-in-one design.  And I actually built a few prototypes.  But then I decided to add the USB output.

When I bought the Bugle Pro, I figured it would be a while before I would do any LP-to-digital procedures. I figured wrong, so I would like to incorporate the USB-out feature of the Ripper to the Bugle. I also would like to maybe throw a Piccolo in there, like a poor man's Archer.
If I seem to be suddenly over-ambitious it's because I'm expecting my first child in a few months and anticipate little time to persue hobby electronics after his/her birth.   :nono:

Could a Piccolo, Bugle, and a portion of the Ripper circuit all operate from the same power supply (i.e. in the same chassis)? I could probably dremel some extra holes in the faceplate and/or top or sides of the Bugle Pro chassis to accomodate extra controls, though it might sacrifice some aesthetics. Is this what you mean by remote mounting?

EDIT: Oh, you said use the Ripper Circuit. Gotcha. Good thing I only built the Bugle's power supply so far.
I'll be placing an order soon.

Sure.  PICCOLO is designed to stack on the BUGLE and tap into the positive supply.  The USB part of RIPPER is powered by the USB bus itself (from computer).

You can return any unused parts for credit.
