Current favorites include:

Beers: Rickard's Red,  Newcastle, Sleeman Honey Brown.

White Wine: Domaine La Moussière(Sancerre), William Fèvre (Chablis), various New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs( Oyster Bay, Kim Crawford, Babich, etc) various new world Chardonnays(California, Australia, NZ).

Red Wine: Liano(Cabernet/Sangiovese), Château Coupe Roses Les Plots( Languedoc-Roussillon), Domaine des Perdrix Pinot Noir, Rosemount Estate(Pinot Noir), Costalunga Bersano barbera-d'asti, Quinta das Setencostas Alenquer(Portugal)

Hard stuff: Margaritas, Mojitos

Once I get going: Any swill that's put in front of me will do

I could drink Ardbeg every day--its smoke addictive.

For American whisky, go vintage.  Try rye.  You may see a bottle of moderately priced Wild Turkey Rye on your vintner's shelf;  kind of rare as Jimmy Russell distills it only a few days a year.  Much better than the company's bourbon.  Recently I was listening to my system--Audio Note pre with tube rectified and regulated 6sn7 (zero feedback), Jordan drivers (no crossover) and Trends digital amp (no feedback?)--and sipping WT rye.  As I tell you that I reveled that first sweetness and then that blast of pepper (kind of like Talisker), coarse lust should be running through your loins.  Try it; it can stand with any single malt.

I like rye, especially Portero (from the guys who make Anchor Steam).  It doesn't have the complexity of scotch, but I personally like it better than bourbon, and it's either cheap or not that expensive.

I vote for Dewars and a splash!  If the Dewars is not available second best is a glass of Merlot.

I don't/can't drink much, so when I do it better be good.

Beers?  Well here on the Front Range of Colorado we are just swamped in micro breweries which all provide a seemingly endless array of interesting things.  Our standard in this house and my community is Fat Tire -- because New Belgium is just up the road in Ft. Collins (and if you're ever in the area, a tour is well worth the trip -- even from RMAF).  Other New Belgiums are Skinny Dip (summer, 2 Below (hoppy, winter, yumm.), etc.

Wines:  Always have lots of 2 buck Chuck on hand, but when I'm serious about things a nice bottle of bin numbered Penfold's Cabernet Sauvignon or a Rosemount is tops -- love those Aussie reds.

The hard stuff: Rum -- 25 year old Flora de Cana from Nicaragua that my friend gets for me when he goes home (not the stuff from Honduras with the same brand name but different recipe and oldest probably being 5 or 7 years.)  Scotch -- really rare -- Lagavulin or McAllen's.

And I make the best damned margeurita you're likely to have anywhere :-)

All that said, I hardly ever indulge when listening -- sacrelidge, I know 98)

Here in St. Louis, a lot of the bars have it in bottles.  Some of them even have it on tap - yummy!

You can't buy Fat Tire here?  Hmm...before I come up, I'll see if I can get it at the beer store in Milford that has (almost) everything.

Usually ice water, when in the mood Blantons  Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey straight or with a tiny splash of water. For Beer its Stella Artois or Becks.

When I was a kid it used to be Château Royal or Apple/Cherry Jack which cost about $1.25/litre. We used to fill up leather canteens with it and spend the afternoon drinking it in the hot sun getting in the "ambiance" for a rock concert. The evening would usually end with at least one or two of us "Calling moose" down by the river.

When we have listening sessions - after a few drinks everything sounds the same.
My fav drink for listening: a classy white (eg.Pierro Chardonnay, Margret River, West. Australia) with French and Australian cheese.
