Burn-in time and sound of new caps?
« on: 14 Aug 2003, 04:31 am »
I just dumped $100 of caps into my early 1960's Scott 355 and the sound is thin and treble oriented with less bass and richness.   I assume part of this will get better after 40 hours our so.  Does anyone have any experience?

I also need to connect by Dynaco ST-70 instead of my Carver C500.  Trading the OUtlaw 150 as a pre to the CArver for the 355 has been a step back at the moment---bad match--not broken in?

There is more detail.  SACD from Norah Jones highlights the issue with her voice and piano.  Even phono has the brightness.

My old Scott 222c didn't have this issue so I expect I can resolve it.

From my understanding caps are among the components most needing of burn in time.  Thinness is a common attribute of new components.  Give it some time, but if it remains the same then I would say those caps aren't a good match for that amp.
