Subwoofer IC's
« on: 7 Jun 2007, 08:45 pm »
Does the quality of the interconnect to a sub make a difference? If so, recommendations welcome. Presently, I'm using a bottom of the line Radio Shack IC.

Thanks,

Raj

I got a monster cable I was told it did not make a diff, I do not trust that from my recent experiements with mag wire ICs, so I will take the time to do one for the sub and see if it is more articulate with it.

What is your source for mag wire?

The quality of the shielding can make a difference for longer runs or for noisy environments. Blue Jeans Cable makes an excellent subwoofer cable: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/subwoofer/index.htm

I like the Belden 1505F cable. It's not quite as good as their custom cable (LC-1), but it's smaller and more flexible.

A cable with effective shielding is Quad shield RG6 which you can get at Home Depot. It's cheap and works good. You won't hear the difference between sub cables unless one of them has something seriously wrong with it. If you can't put on RCA's yourself just go to Blue Jeans cable. The main reason my sub cables are made by me is because it's wise to keep the length down to a minimum. The length could end up being more important than which cable you use.
