Sorry, obviously I did not mean that scum compressed, lopped and strangled R&R CDs are suddenly going to come to life. My observation was that CDs that people wince at because of a hard bright high end might be an eye opener when the hard and bright goes away, but the detail and transparency remains. We would expect on some to substitue the impression "too loud" high end for harsh bright high end, which is likely a more accurate evaluation of the recording problems. Frank

I would love to see some speakers or DAC that could somehow save those poor dynamically compressed discs...but I'll continue to dream.

We can't work miracles, but the combination of a T7 preamp, Fet Valve amp, and the Biro L/1s will eek out a lot more musicality and aliveness out of many old Bettles records. Yah, the recording techniques were lousy, but we like that we can hear past that and listen to the talent. Frank

Two Observations:

First, I hope all you people understand that we manufacture and sell the Biro loudspeakers under licence from the designer, Mithat Konar, of Biro Technology. Mithat and I are long term close friends, and he has been residing in Istanbul, Turkey most of the time teaching college there for the past few years and we took over the production of the speakers here for him. Mithat also is doing all of my electrical engineering work now - the Transcendence Seven preamp is mostly his design ideas.

Second, Mithat is home here in Minnesota for the next few days. He will respond to any questions you care to e-mail him about the speaker design. His e-mail address is [email protected].

I can also recommend you visit his web site: www.birotechnology.com as there is good technical information there about speaker design in general.

Just a word, (more to come)... It was a good time. Once again, as always, MAd Dog and his wife are spectacualr hosts and all the attendees got a lot of listening in.

There were a few surprises, and I'm sure we'll see some interesting comments by the group members.

One thing for sure, the sound gets better everytime i go to these get togethers. Between Mad Dog, Shokunin, and Cryotweaks we were really treated to some fun toys.

So much so I had to rush home and make sure my Reference system was still such.

I even had to change out my CD player and retire the Harman Kardon in favor of my older Rotel. (the difference in bass is quite noticable)

I'll try to write up my impression of the ZU and Biros, using the Ref Ones and 626Rs as a Reference.

We ran some Bass tone DB tests that might prove interesting ( I also ran the same on the 626R when I got home - different room but still interesting results)

Have to run tidy up my gym. Lucky me, I get to start training Lillian Meuller (Playmate of the Year many years ago) next week.

Even though I admire your audio acumen, you now have my complete admiration...how many years are "Many years ago"???

Also, please let us know about that sweet spot.

Plus they're the kind that need to be shared

More pleasure for all involved. Of course sharing the sweet spot in the sweet spot is the best

And on topic...this was definitely the best get together ever. Great music and great crowd. Plus more comedy than ever

Definitely the best MD's setup has ever sounded. What a shame he'll eventually have to upgrade
