I purchased a pair of monitors on ebay that arrived in the original boxes with original packing. One woofer was completely dislodged with no indication of damage to box. Those UPS folks are magicians.
The seller promised help but never came through.

  Yeah, they are magicians alright. I've seen some of them perform that tricks while loading and unloading boxed from their truck. 

  So far I've been pretty lucky that none of stuff I've bought or shipped were damaged by shipping.... better keep my fingers crossed.

this is why I never buy new gear for myself - then I will have to sell and ship something and it will take a day for me to bomb proof it  seriously I have been lucky with most shipments, but I really don't change gear often. ups did manage to damage the binding posts on my speakers thou not shure how - could have been karate kicking competition in the warehouse - I wanna job there!  I want to kick something that I don't own, Hmm guilt vs self anger? sometimes we do screw up maybe he was in a hurry which as we all learn costs us more effort on the back end.

I do hope you get properly refunded.

Postscript: Seller offers to pay 1/2 of the repairs which he figures to be $340.00 so I get $170.00 out of this if he comes through as promised. Anyone know someone who can rewire a TT with an RCA junction box?

I'm not scared of shipping anything, anywhere...except a TT.  I have all the orig boxes for mine, but if i ever sell it'll be a local sale.

Years ago i bought my 1st TT, a 1970's Dual, off a canuck on ebay.    he mailed it with the wildest set-up, a dozen or so thin pizza boxes were bundled every which way.

After it arrived, in perfect shape, the seller e-mailed to ask me about this specifically...his buddy works at a pizza joint and got him a good deal on 1000 of those small boxes.  the seller had damaged many TT's before finding the right method.

My opinion on packing is that there is a 90% chance your box is going to be dropped from 6ft or worse.  Plan on it happening, and if your package isn't packaged to tolerate such abuse it isn't packed well.

Last night i went to a buddy's place, he scored a 1980's Micro Seiki DQ3 with the Ma707 tonearm for about $400.

i'm all about the newer budget TT's, but the DQ3 has me scratchin' my head.   It is a true TT and i'm starting to see my table (and those similar to a P3) in a completely difft light.

don't give up on old school in other words...just my 2 cents.

I'd try to keep the Benz if you can; Benz makes great carts.  Should mate well with the Rega arm.

Now my buyer says that he is not happy with what I sent him (as the ad said, a VPI Jr for PARTS) and basically dissected everything I sent him (well packed ) and told me why it won't work for him. Now he wants to send everything back to me and I pay the return shipping ( I paid the 45 bucks to ship the two boxes to him) or wants me to send him $75.00 and he will sell the parts himself-sigh.

Hmmmmm...   if you were upfront with him, provided picks and didn't misrepresent anything...

not sure what i would do, but i do know it sucks to have someone upset.

If you send him any money to settle the deal, be certain to get a signed statement from the buyer specifying what was included, the price, and the terms and that the deal is now final. Make sure it includes his full name, address and telephone number. Otherwise, these kinds of transactions have a way of dragging on.

If the buyer won't agree to provide this statement, then pay the $45 to get your table back and move on to the next buyer. This time, however, specify in your ad and in the invoice that the sale is final without refund.

Yeah I goofed on that one-my ad should have said something about the sale being final. I'm going to send him the $75.00 and move on. I had ten buyers for the TT for parts the first day, so he'll have no trouble getting his money back, plus I picked up the shipping and his Paypal fees on the initial transaction
