Anyone own Hickok 752?
« on: 2 Jun 2007, 12:20 am »
I just bought a Hickok 752 off ebay (and it works).  However, I didn't get a manual.   I need to order one.  Anyone know how to do anything other than the obvious mc test?  Anyone know where a good place to get a manual is?  I've seen a couple places on the internet, but I don't know who is reputable.

Josh,
Nice score.  There used to be a nice site on the web with all the manuals.  It was found here:
http://www.0wned.org/~hstraub/testerdata.htm

It doesn't seem to be active, but fear not.  Through the power of the Internet Archive, you can still access all the manuals.  Take a look here:

This site doesn't have the 752 but it has all kinds of old manuals.

Nice score BTW. A few weeks ago I bit the bullet and bought a Tripplett 3423. I picked it over the Hickok (TV series) because it does a 100Hz and 4000Hz noise test rather than just the 100Hz of the Hickok. I'm hoping that gives me a little better indication on how good the tubes are.

Oh, be sure to calibrate your Hickok. I forget where I saw it, but there is a site out there that tells you step by step how to calibrate your tester. I'll see if I can't find that link again.

Yeah, that'd be great.  I didn't know it was an easy thing to do, but upon thinking about it, I don't see why it wouldn't be straight forward enough.

I have a 534 also, I think that is the right number, but it arrived and wasn't working.  So it needs to get fixed, but the site Gary pointed to had the schematic for it as well.  I was going to send it out to get fixed, but I may try to trouble shoot the PSU first.  I don't think I want to trouble shoot the rat's nest, I'll pay someone to make it their problem.

Josh,

I found a couple of sites that might help. Though I didn't see the exact calibration procedure for the 572, I'd be a quick email to one of these guys would put you on the right track.

The Radiola Guy has a nice site with calibration procedures for the 539, 600, 800
http://www.radiolaguy.com/tubeTesterRest.htm

The guy I bought my Triplett from uses Alltubetesters for his repairs.

As I remember, most everybody recommends a 6L6 test tube to calibrate a Hickok. They are about $40 bucks. I'm sure there is a way to do it with a simple multimeter but that might take some searching on the net.
