Is it just me, or are tubes slowly taking over North Texas? :)

Nice amp, Marvin - let us know how it sounds!

Hey Marvin,
I think you'll like this amp. If it is a newer unit with the LED bias, it  will be even more convienent. Did you get the RC version?
I have been working with and on Jolida amps since their first 1994 302A & 502A units that used the 6922 input tube and Jolida is the only product that has been with me for over 10 years now.
 Congrats Marvin. Nice choice.

hi bill, it does have the ez bias but is not the remote version, could have got it new for $1000 shipped but once the dealer vouched for this seller and confirmed it was a legit unit i had to get it.
brian, this is just a shallow wade into the waters since you've been gone sold the dodd elp ( to jim-england) and onix integrated, car engine died and had to get another car and might sell the onix ref 1's but will probally hold onto them for the jolida.

And, of course, you've performed 17 different cable swaps in that time as well! :P

Sorry to hear about the car engine, Marvin.  Hope the new one works out for you!

Marvin,

I, too, am considering a Jolida JD 502...along with the JD 100 cd player. What type of speakers do you have, to go with the 502?

Hope you enjoy the new amp. Thanks.

Mike

i have two sets, my main speakers are usher 6381 87 db. 8 ohm, i also have a pair of onix ref. 1 bookshelves at 88 db. 4 ohm. i was considering the jd 801a that i could get for $1230 shipped but that $700 shipped for the 502b was too much of a temptation. i also was considering a used tube audio design tad-60 2006 for $900 + shipping.

i have...usher 6381

I've heard the 6381 connected to a Cayin tube amp...very impressive. Unfortunately their out of my price range. Usher has a couple speakers in the $2 - 2.5k price range that also sound good. Unfortunately, the Usher's and Jolida that I'm interested in are sold by different dealers so hearing all the components together is not possible.

Marvin,

Thanks for the referral on Jack's speakers...I'll be sure to contact him. I'm located in Baltimore, MD.
I'm very familiar with Underwood, having dealt with Walt in the past. Beings I'm looking to purchase both the 502 and JD-100 cd player I know he'll give me a good deal.

Thanks again. Mike

I would like to hear the results if you have any problems powering your Usher's.

I tried to power my speakers 85 db@ 8 ohms and it fell flat with no bass control  I'm going to try and hookup again this weekend to see if I missed something as I had no problems with my 88 db Gallos albeit w/the SubAmp in place. Similar design Shuguang 502B, I'm told not the same inside though...

Good luck

I use to be an Usher dealer and I don't think you will have much trouble driving the 6381 Ushers with the 502. The speakers are a pretty easy load and I have several customers driving them with Bella 3205 and Jolida amplifiers with both EL34 and 6550 tubes. The Jolida has a decent power supply (not familiar with the design of the Shuguang). This is, of course, dependent on your listening habits and expectation.
If you really like the sound of the amp and want even more control, you could always get another 502 and bi-amp the Ushers. You wouldn't even need a preamp as there is a variable out on the new Jolida amps. Better yet, I have one customer driving a pair of 6371's with a 502 down below and 302 up top and he loves the combination. The 502 has very good dynamic control on the woofer while the 302's EL34 tubes provide a more romantic sound up top.
You will simply have to wait and see what you end up with. Do keep us posted.
