I always thought that a plop sound when you turn your amplifier on/off is not good for your speakers?

I turn off my preamp first and only then power down the amp. I do hear a tiny pip from the speakers which is quite different from your plop which I presume is loud?

No it isn't that loud but still present. And I also always turn the pre-apm off first.

Only a tick here, so I would say a plop isn't normal without putting much significance to it when you said it's not loud. Maybe it depends on the speakers.
Why would you first turn off the devices upstream, that can only cause more glitches.
And one dealer (he doesn't sell Bryston) told me that it's better when it ticks (or plops), that means that the signal path is not crowded with the relays or something like that.

SO it is normal. It's hard to explain a sound in another language, but a tick is the same for me as a plop.

The pop is just the power supply powering down - it is normal and will not cause any problems. It does vary from system to system depending on grounding and speaker efficiency etc.

Rabpaul...
it's not recommended that the preamp is turned off first...the order is that you turn the amps off, then the preamp and when you turn things on, the preamp is first, then the amps.

My B60 pops like hell when I turn it off.
First the right, then the left channel.

However, my speakers have 98dB/W/m so I guess it's normal.
Never had problems because of that pop!

Does anyone know why you should power up (source>pre>amp) and power down (amp>pre>source)?

Hi,

It is just a precaution so that your speakers do not receive any turn-on or turn-off artifacts from the components in front of the power amp that may cause damage to your speaker drivers or crossover.
