Anyone heard a Margules Daleth?
« on: 28 May 2007, 04:20 am »
A ways back a fellow AC'er was (I think) either a dealer for or connected with Margules, manufacturer of the Daleth multichannel preamp.  There was a bit of buzz about it, but I haven't been able to get any response from the company re dealers.  Does anyone have any idea if there are any online dealers, and if so who they are?

One time I saw on for sale on Agon but I wasn't quick enough... :duh:

I was (and still am) very interested in the Daleth, but ran into the same problem, no one had or had heard one. I wound up going with an Audio Refinement Pre-5, instead.

It seems like Eduardo (sp?), a member I haven't heard from in awhile, was somehow connected to Margules, perhaps as a dealer.  I'm considering the Audio Refinement peice, too, but it's not easy to find either.  Occasionally they pop up on Agon and sell instantly.  Plus, the Pre-5 has no bass management while the Daleth has pretty comprehensive crossover schemes.  I kick myself that the one time I did see a Daleth on Agon for about $850 I dragged my feet til it sold. :duh:

Of course, there's the McCormack MAP-1 but that's in a whole 'nuther price range and doesn't do bass management, either.

None of my emails to Margules have been answered, fwiw.

I spoke to a gentleman in North Carolina (?) who was a Margules dealer. Further, I heard the Margules multi-channel pre. playing 2ch. only. It sounded very nice, the remote worked well and the unit was expertly built. At the same time-like the next day-a local dealer called me about a demo McCormack MAP-1 he was selling for a decent price.  I've had the MAP-1 since Nov. '06 and am thrilled.

Given what they do and their price points between the Audio Refinement, Margules and McCormack units their is no mistake between the three.

The MAP-1 simply wouldn't work for me; I need bass management.  If I had to buy a Marchand or something that would seriously up the ante.

How about a Pre-5 (or MAP-1) and an ICBM?

My Newcastle SD-860 has excellent BM, level trim and time alignment, better than most receivers and processors. So it was a complete non-issue for me.

I'm pretty sure Eduardo AAVM is or was a dealer for Margules.  You can find him in the Odyssey Circle.  There is also a guy in North Carolina called Audio Heaven.  I think the Daleth is actually a Magenta product.  I had one of their CD analog couplers a while back and it was an excellent product.  I bought it second-hand and by chance.

Yeah, a Pre-5 would be nice, too, but those and Outlaw ICBMs are also pretty hard to find.  The latter especially usually sell within hours of being posted on Agon and Outlaw long discontinued them.  I'm sure the McCormack peice is great but I don't want to spend that much on a unit with no bass management and 1 set of MC inputs.

I hadn't seen Eduardo AAVM around here in awhile.  The Daleth is part of Margules Magenta line.  If I can get ahold of a dealer I'll try that route. :)

Hi Rob,
My MAP-1 has two sets of multichannel inputs-no bass management though. I'll ask my buddy in Colorado if he wants to sell his Daleth. It is in what amounts to a fourth system.

"My bad" as they say- I was thinking the MAP-1 had only 1 set of MC inputs.  No video switching, I think.  I think it's an interesting unit, just too expensive for what it does.

Yeah, if you know someone who might have one for sale steer him my way. :)

Multi-channel analog preamps are had to come by, that's for sure. Another option, if you can find one, is a Sony TA-P9000ES. It's been discontinued, but one comes up on the used market occasionally.

If you check dealers, a new Pre-5 can sometime be found for around $800, sometime less. For MC switching I use a Zektor HDS4.1.

Yeah, I've heard the Zektor is pretty nice.  I don't need much switching, don't really foresee needing more than 2 MC inputs.  The Audio Refinement peice is supposed to be nice but I can't find any dealer that can sell online, and I live in Watertown South Dakota.  Find it on a map and you'll see my problem.  Funny thing is I used to see the Pre-5's on A'gon all the time...until I needed one. :duh:
