FS: Ric Schultz EVS500M Monoblock Amps PRICE DROP
« on: 25 May 2007, 01:26 am »
Hello

I'm looking to sell my pair of EVS500M monoblock amps.  These amps are truly amazing in the resolving power they can deliver and their ability to drive any speaker.  They did an amazing job with my Nuforce S-9 speakers and had I not decided to go the high efficiency route, I would certainly be keeping these.

They are in as-new condition

Here's what Ric has to say:

"The EVS500M is our super high powered Ice mono block amps.  These amps use Ice Powers best and most powerful module (the 1000ASP) that puts out over 500 watts into 8 ohms and will drive anything there is. These amps will redefine high powered sound and value.  We are sending several amps (both stereo EVS100S and mono EVS500M) off for reviews.  The mono block chassis are available in two styles....the standard ones are similar to the Bel Canto REf1000s....that is, 8 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 3 inches tall.  This way a pair of them can sit next to each other on any shelf.  I can also sell the amp in a chassis that is 12 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 3 inches tall.  This chassis has more room on the back for added options like built-in Ultimate Attenuators, more output jacks, etc.  Input and output connections, wiring and feet are the same as described for the EVS100S above. They weigh about 7.5 lbs. each.  They are simply the best amps I have ever heard."

I used them with a Welborne battery power tube pre (also for sale  :green:) to great effect.

These never come up on the used market and the wait time for new amps is considerable!  New, they cost me $2,000 + shipping.  I will let them go for $1,400 + shipping.

Please send me a message with any quesitons.  Thanks!

Jim

Guys, yep, I did sell them...to Jared in fact!

Awesome amps, btw...would highly recommend them to anyone that needs the power that they can provide.  Pair them up with a good tube pre and I can't think of anything better.  :D

Nope not selling them anytime soon, funny enough Jim asked me the same question about a week ago.

Long story short these are the best amps I have ever had.  I tried a bunch of amps before settling on these, including PS Audio, Red Dragon, some gainclones, Nuforce, and my current Earthquake Cinenove Grande.

Nothing beat the Grande except these.  Bass slam was more plentiful yet it was amazingly fast, best bass I have ever experienced with my Gallos.  These were also quieter them my Earthquake, both through the speakers and mechanically (aka no hum of any kind).  Not only were they sonically superior but they run cold at all times, which is a big deal for me as the room gets warm.

Gaara, could you tell us how they compared to the Nuforces you had (and which Nuforces were those)? Thanks in advance.

I enjoyed my time with the Nuforce 8.02s, but didn’t love them.  They were good amps and good for the money (well what I paid) but after all the raving I had heard about them I expected more.

In summary I preferred the 500Ms in almost every department.  If you want more read below, and if you want even more just ask and I can embellish more:

Comparing heat (big for me) the 500Ms run cold at all times, even after demoing bits of movies at high volumes for 2 hrs.  The 8.02s would run warm all the time, and get a little warmer after use, but never hot.  Physically these two are similar, with the 500Ms being a little heavier and a inch or two larger on all sides.  When it comes to noise the 500Ms are the quietest amps I have ever heard, I had to be 6in or less to hear noise from the tweeter.  The 8.02s were weird, I could hear noise from 2-3ft away, but once something was playing it went away.

Sound quality wise I much preferred the 500Ms.  Bass came and went very quickly, it was almost unnaturally fast.  The bass was very taught and went deep like the 8.02s, but it went measurably deeper on my Gallos and also seemed more accurate.  The mids were better on the 500M, voices seem to emanate from inside of the room instead of from the speakers.  Listening to Diana Krall with the 500Ms it seemed like her voice was coming out of thin air.  The highs were similar, both were a little brighter then my Cinenova but never harsh.  Soundstage width was about the same between the amps, and depth and height the nod goes to the 500M.  Scale was portrayed much better with the 500Ms also, I assume because of the 5x increase in power.  Most of the differences were slight though, except for the improvement in bass, that was noticeable on the first track.
