Hello All

I am selling my modded Welborne Labs Ultrapath battery-powered tube preamp.  This pre was professionally built and modified by Gordon Maughan at Red Rock Audio.  Some details regarding this amp are as follows:

-unit features the optional Goldpoint dual-mono stepped ladder attenuators (with Holco resistors); large can ASC oil caps (custom-mounted on the top deck to facilitate very short runs from the caps to the circuit board connection points); 30-gauge pure silver signal path hook-up wire with high purity Teflon insulation; high-grade 2% and 4% silver solder used for all soldered connections; Gordon also added a couple of MIT Realcap shunts;

-6GM8/ECC86 tubes are premium Dutch Amperex Orange-globes;

-standard Ultrapath BP features include Electraprint transformers, Cardas output jacks, Dale/Vishay resistors, rechargeable battery supply with umbilical and black powder-coated/silk-screened aluminum chassis.

I haven't heard the "other" battery-powered tube preamp, but I would love to put this one up against it in a shootout!  Its in beautiful shape (see pic).

I'm looking to get $750 plus shipping for it which is an insane deal for a preamp this good!  Paypal adds 3%.

Thanks for looking and please send me a message with any questions.

-Jim

Couple of questions on the preamp.

What type of battery is used, expected life, details?

What are the inputs and outputs?

Anyplace online to read any info. on this?

Thanks,  ckoffend

ckoffend, great questions.  Regarding the batteries, it uses 4x standard 12V SLAs and 2x standard 6V SLAs.  The batteries are easily changed out should they begin not to hold a charge (I haven't noticed this).

It has 3 sets of inputs and dual outputs.

Here is a good place to read about the latest iteration of the Ultrapath BP:

http://www.welbornelabs.com/ultra.htm

There are some differences between this latest iteration and mine but the same basic circuit is the same.  Please note that mine is significantly upgraded above and beyond any "factory" Ultrapath BP ever offered.  You will also see that new Ultrapaths sell for $1,795.

Here are two pictures:  One of the back of the unit and one of the battery pack.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks,
Jim

just a note about SLA's....  They can last incredibly long if they are well cared for (being used is cared for, as they need to be charged/discharged).  If for some reason they are stored for too long (more than a month without use) and they get sulfication, they can be de-sulfide but it takes some doing with the right electronic charger.   It is a lot like a car battery in this regard.
