manley mahi's f/s - mint, w/upgrade tubes
« on: 20 May 2007, 06:56 pm »
hi,

personal reasons made me long for a mesa baron - ever since the ex threw mine down a flight of stairs almost 4 years ago, i vowed to get another.  well, i yust found one; this is the reason i am now selling my mint mahi's.  these include eight nos european rohren el84's, never used; a pair of cryo'd amperex 7062's, & a pair of telefunken ecc801s's, considered the best 12at7 ever made.  also included are the stock el84's (presently in the amp), the stock 12at7's & a pair of non-cryo'd amperex 7062's.  i'd like to get $1700 for these, plus shipping in original boxes.  but i will consider any reasonable offers.   :green:

thanks,

doug s.

I've posted this before, but I'll say it again; welcome back, doug.  Your humor, intentional misspellings and cummings-esque approach to posting was truly missed.

Oh... and good luck with the sale.  Just consider this an early bump.   :thumb:

hi all,

for those not familiar w/this amp, it's 20wpc triode, 40wpc ultralinear.  it has three different negative feedback settings: -3db, -6db, -10db.  for more info, checkout the manley website.  these really are nice amps...

if i get no response here in a few daze, it's off to big bad audiogon w/these...

thanks,

doug s.

Yes, the MAHI-MAHI is a nice setup. Then pick up one of these used http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatube&1184847560 and you have a killer system for under 3 grand. (interesting ad by the way).

The MAHI is also a tweakers dream. Cheange out some of the coupling capacitors and you can voice to your liking.

Absolutely. Although I have not been inside a pair of Snappers, I know of others who have.

Sooner or later everyone's amp gets thrown down a flight of stairs, if not by your ex, then by a shipping company!  :P   Nice amps doug, I lust for them even though I am trying to sell my Stingray!  Too expensive for me, though. *sigh*  They are yust so beautiful...

ya, the mahi's are sweet.  ever since i heard a manley stingray, i wanted a pair of mahi's.  even better sounding than the stingray, not having to share tranny's & all - yust ask evanna, that's what she told me!   :green:  but i can't yustify keeping them and a mesa baron - too many similarities in the topology, & the mesa is a bit more wersatile, sentimentality not withstanding.

good luck w/your stingray sale, these are really nice integrateds.  one w/a triode/ul switch & the pre out/main in loop would make a killer little set-up that could be used w/outboard x-over & subs, w/the stingray's internal amp crossed over to drive the mains, & a s/s amp driving the subs...

Yep, that's what I had going, except my amp doesn't have the pre outs or anything.  I was using a Monolithic passive preamp in front of it and that was going to the crossover\subwoofer amp.  Kind of an odd setup what with the redundant volume knobs and all, but it works.  Er, worked...

Whoever buys your Mahis will realize that for as good as it looks here in the photos, when you actually touch it and open up the insides you'll see what a gorgeous piece of work it is.  For being a piece of electronics that just sits there you'd think it was built like some kind of mechanical machine!  It is the definition of "Full-Ass" to me.  I know none of that has anything to do with sound, but dang it - so what! :)
