CDWG Installation on RM40s
« on: 13 May 2007, 09:45 pm »
I'm trying to install the CDWG on my RM40s.  It appears that the CDWG has balls that fit into a receptacle on the RM40s.  However, the receptacles that are currently on my RM40s are too small.  The installation kit has new receptacles, but I'm unsure about how to remove the currently installed receptacles.  I tried prying them out by inserting small screw drivers under the lip, but that doesn't appear at first blush to work.  I also tried inserting a larger screw driver into the center of a receptacle, at an angle, and then prying the receptacle out.  Again, this technique wasn't immediately successful.  This technique might work, but I want to ensure this is a correct technique prior to adding force to the screw driver.

I would appreciate any help on how to correctly remove these receptacles.

By the way, the new passives had no damping tape, whereas the old ones did.  Is this damping tape beneficial and, if so, what it is called so that I can order it?  Thanks.

If you can get ahold of those with some pliers that could work. I don't know how much larger the other ones are but if it's say just an 1/8" I'd carefully use a drill to open up the hole. Being as the plug can't be very thick plastic a drill will surely remove it.

I'm sure the drill idea is scary at first thought but if you're careful it will be easy to do. The plastic will come right out and you can install the new ones. Careful to hold the drill so it can't twist in your hands as it grabs the plastic.

I  can't address the CDWG issues, but the passive could be installed with some silicone sealant instead of the weatherstrip ?

Thanks for the comments.  I'll try the plier idea.  Well, what I'm worried about is the MDF disintegrating.  It's fairly easy to get it to basically fall apart.  As for the sealing around the PR, when I put in the new midwoofers, I sealed everything using the same putty used on the PRs.  This worked well, I thought.
