I just got back from Jeff's house in Portland with my car stuffed to the gills with equipment for review. I snagged the Exposure 3010S integrated with a MC phono stage, the Moon LP 5.3 phono preamp, the Musical Surroundings SuperNova phono preamp, the Shunyata Guardian 6 power conditioner with almost every power cord they make, and Grado SR-225 headphones modded by ALOaudio.  I also snagged Jeff's pair of Devore Fidelity Gibbon Super 8 speakers, the ones he reviewed in Issue #9, and I must say that I absolutely love these speakers...such a huge soundstage, such deep bass from such a modest-looking (but still gorgeous) little floorstander.  I'll be using these speakers instead of my usual Zu Audio Druid mk. IVs to evaluate the higher-powered amps for a while.

The Exposure is still breaking in but sounds extremely promising.  This is a very different sound than I've been used to with the SET amps, but I'm equally intrigued.  Stay tuned!

Excellent score on electronics. It looks like you are in for some fun listening sessions. I've always wanted to hear the Exposure 3010...  I came very close to snagging one a month or so ago. My experiences thus far have been with their 2010 series - which is great in its own right.

Thanks!  After nearly 48 hours of break-in, the 3010S is sounding great.  It is very detailed, however, which is taking some getting used to, considering I've been listening to SET almost exclusively for the last couple of years.

Now I've got the Moon LP 5.3 phono stage going, and within the first day it sounds really nice.  I hate this cliche, but it sounds almost tubelike!  It has bloom like no other solid-state phono stage I've heard.

Mike Fremer had very nice things to say about the Moon 5.3 in Stereophile.

Which issue?  I must have missed it.  For some reason, I though Art Dudley did the review.

Wow i've just just your website and i understand your dedication to devotion to vinyl...

Anyway, i'm hoping you can assist me.  I have a fairly good vinyl system but i am experiencing hum from my vinyl system.. Its really annoying me as i've spent a reasonable amount of money on vinyl as i believe it still has an edge on cd.

I use a bluenote piccolo turntable, a bluenote de medici phonostage and i use a gold of use n.e.w. p3 tube preamplifier in my system.  When i connect my bluenote to my p3 tube preamp i get really loud hum in my system.  I have the ground from the turntable connected to my phonostage and it is fairly loud.  If i don't have the ground connected its about 50% less and it is bearable imo. 

I've used the following preamps and all had problems with hum except the musical fidelity xlps; perreaux sxv1, bugle phonostage, cornet phonostage and currently i'm using a bluenote de medici (the best sounding i've had from phono except for the hum).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as i really want to fix the hum problems i'm experiencing.

It could be several things.  I'd start with the connector pins on the back of the cartridge to see if they're properly attached and/or crimped.  See if anything of the wiring is loose and moves freely on the pins.

I had some hum in my phono stage recently, which was alleviated by using a proper power conditioner.  But start with the pins first.

How long have you had the analog rig?  Have you had problems with the beginning?

I would think so, too...except I really wonder why the Musical Fidelity is immune...

The only way to be sure is to try a different preamp in the chain.
