New Audiogon policies.... thoughts?

Tvad - I don't think this is just to make a point, but rather to fix a problem. Unless we all line up and say no to Agon their attitude will continue unabated. History says they will only get worse unless something tells them they can't afford to do so.
I'm sure we all have functional systems now. Why don't we just limit our changes to those we can effect without the help of Audiogon?

We have always had the Audiogon logo on our homepages (we have two websites) to direct consumers to some of the featured/clearance/demo items posted on audiogon as can be seen here: http://www.bellaextreme.com/

If dealers/manufacturers can post items on the site, I would have no problem posting the logo with a link on our sites to help get more exposure to the audioxsell site.

Thanks for the reminder. We normally do have a logo link to our forum here at AC but after the site change, the logo went back to the original. I liked the old way of being able to choose the background on AC. You know, the one with the black background.

After reading this thread, I decided to go to A'gon to check my balance - $24 left after posting 2 ads, thankfully still at $6 each. I'll eat up the remaining 4 ads and be done.

Let's all combine our paltry individual business and form a boycott significant enough to get Audiogon's attention. Or, better yet, let's permanently replace them. What would it take to get such an enterprise underway? Is AudioXsell the answer?

I wanted to create an ad site for a long time.. I never really disliked Audiogon but I wanted to do it differently. So, I'm all over it... I just need a good domain name and I'll get on it...

The main contact, Tom, is very easy to work with. He even went so far as to make me a template that has my logo embedded. All I have to do is type in the stuff I want to sell and add a few pictures. I do buy a banner ad there, so I don't know if that makes any difference in getting a template, but the people at AudioXsell are REALLY easy to work with. And, nice guys to boot.

Shoot Tom an e-mail, I bet he'd be willing to work with you and help out in any way he can.

I like what I'm reading. Maybe an aspect of Audiogon's disregard for us is that they underestimated our resourcefulness and resolve. They are not our only option, just merely our most convenient one. And that could change quickly.

Guys, after reading the replies on this thread, I'd thought I'd chime in.

I realize that Lonewolf is right, it does take money to make money, but for most of us, it's not about making money is it? It's about trying out gear, having fun at experiencing new gear and sharing thoughts on gear, etc... Having said that, only three years ago, the fee was $2, and well, that's reasonable, I thought...but then $3, now $6?
I think, as you all have mentioned, it is the "best" place currently, but it doesn't have to be! I have made a number of sales and purchases here on the Circle and also av123's forum. I think this is a capitalistic system, if we start to use other forums such as this or av123 or back to audios asylum, we can slowly bring back the impact that Audiogon has and perhaps get them to understand.

Perhaps a petition to Audiogon from it's members? Collectively we have the power to change it, don't just let them take the shirt off our backs. Remember this is a hobby for the majority of us, I know some dealers are out there too, but they too have other costs and so do we. I mean, Paypal already takes a big chuck out of the $$$ we sell our products for, then the shipping companies, not this????

Let's stop the madness...use the circle and av123 or other forums!!!

There's always the rummage sale. Open up the garage door, set down with a lawn chair, a cigar box and a card table and stick that $1500 pricetag on your exotic SET amp. No listing fee, no shipping charges, no PayPal takin' a taste, no taxes...okay so maybe the sign and balloons might cost a few bucks...

We offer additional services to dealers and manufactures who advertise with us which making posting easier, and the classifieds more unique to their business. Lee from Cryoparts mentioned the custom templates which is part of this service. We also aid dealers in posting large numbers of classifieds by classified ad information in any format (excell, word etc...).

Thanks for the Response Tom (pun intended). I will get the ball rolling on my website with a link to AudioXsell. I will also post one or two ads as I have already registered.
I woudl also like to get more information on a dealer campaign and look into this shortly.

By the way, love the show coverage photos and the ease of finding what you're looking for.

i really dislike agon quite a lot. i stopped posting to their forums several years ago, when the "moderation" became quite obscene, blatantly censoring stuff that might step on the toes of their big commercial accounts.

their recent changes really suck - more expensive and less service, what w/limiting foto's, links, etc...

i post ads there only as a last resort, but i do admit i like to browse the f/s stuff. but i also am constantly looking for new places to browse. besides the places awreddy mentioned, i also like to browse here:

it would be great if i was able to stop browsing their classifieds, like i was able to stop using their forums! aa

I miss Audiomart. I, too, am concerned about the direction Agon is headed. I'm all for everyone making a profit, but stuff like this takes the fun out of this hobby. I'd rather pay a bit more in ad costs to support a site like AudioXsell which sounds like a great alternative to Agon.

It will be a very long time before another on-line site reaches the level of exposure and traffic that A-Gon has. I am happy to post on others as well as provide links from my website to try to generate more traffic but from a practical standpoint, boycotting AudioGon is not justifyable and would not provide any results.

The same could be said for Exxon Mobile, local gas & electric companies and cable companies. The point is, I need gas in my car, heat and electricity in my home & business and a phone.

None of these companies, as well as AudioGon really cares if a few hundred or even several thousand (for the larger companies) boycot them.

These companies know where they stand and will not change and unfortunately, there is not much a select few can do about it. It would take a massive undertaking to get enough parties involved to make any difference.

We all like to rant but in all reality, when has it ever done us much good
