New releases from Warner
« on: 25 Apr 2007, 01:26 am »
Are we all very excited about the impending slew of high quality releases from warner?

The ones that will be listed at becausesoundmatters.com

Hopefully there will be a lot of rarer titles or first appearances on vinyl.

What are they up to? Surely this isn't happening because of the market potential promised by the audiophile population, or could I be wrong about that?
CD sales are slipping but I have trouble believing that vinyl can make up the difference for them. Anyone know?

Who knows what record companies are up to? Grasping at straws? Reverting back to a non digital format in an attempt to slow down copying? We will never know, because they don't know either: they have been watching sales decline for years and seem unable to stop it.

That said, I am happy to see new vinyl being offered, and always try to encourage them (with my wallet) when they offer something I want.  As an example, there is a vinyl section at my local Virgin Megastore. Whenever I find myself near Disney property, I try to go in. I have one rule: I only buy vinyl there. Every time I have gone in, I have purchased something. My logic is if I do it, maybe someone else will to, and this will eventually register to the accountants. They, of course, will see this and increase the selection and amount of vinyl.

Somehow, it seems to be working. The first time I did it, I had try to find a few titles worth buying. The last time I was there, I actually had to put some back, as my pile was getting too large.

Funny, they are way high as far as price on CDs...but the vinyl is priced fairly.  Hmmmm.

If my Rhino/WB Grateful Dead reissues are any indication, the new releases from WB seem promising. If I recall correctly, they were reasonably priced too...around $17 each.

Apparently there is a vinyl lover at Warner who is encouraging this.

The title will be priced around 24.99 dollars. This is reasonable for what will be a premium audiophile products but I agree, that for the average punter, this is quite steep. I really don't understand if its intended as a boutique product or if  they perceive the vinyl market as being worthwhile or expandable.
