FS: Aspen AKSA LifeForce 100 -- SOLD

With deep regret I am selling my Aspen Amplifiers AKSA LifeForce 100 amp. As regular posters on the AKSA Audio Circle know, this 100 WPC, true dual-mono unit is the pinnacle of Hugh Dean's amp design. Unique circuit and parts choice voiced over years of deep listening as well as measuring, this amp gives you an intensely musical sound plus all the muscle and finesse you might want.

Selling because my original Quad ESLs were designed for, and demand, tubes. I just can't afford to hang onto this wonderful amp.

The LF100 modules are all built by Hugh, not as kits. However this amp was originally a kit-built AKSA 100 N+, the kit predecessor to the LifeForce. That kit cost me about $1500 for the parts (including transformers, chassis and connectors)... then the LF100 modules were another $1295 from Hugh. My out of pocket costs came to $2795 (not including my labor), but this amp slays far more expensive models. See the discussion on the AKSA Audio Circle.

Parts are of the highest quality - two massive Avel Lindborg power transformers (see picture), enormous power supply filter capacitance, Black Gate caps throughout the boards. More importantly, the parts selection has been tuned by ear by Hugh down to the smallest detail.

More information at these links:

The chassis includes two balanced inputs in the back which are not currently hooked up. The boards can be modified to accept them - Hugh is happy to help in this regard. In fact, he may be the most helpful audio designer I have ever worked with.

Pictures below. Seeking $1500 obo. All manuals (AKA 100, Nirvana upgrade, Nirvana Plus upgrade, and LifeForce 100 upgrade) included. PICK-UP IN NEW YORK CITY PREFERRED - the amp is extremely heavy and I have no boxes.

Geez. That's an awful shame. Bargain basement price.

Luckily for me, I already have one LF100, and I know it drives my Alons beautifully. Mr. Harris's will be used for bi-amping (or maybe a second system, to really piss SWMBO off). The Alons have staggered 2 pole crossovers, so rationalizing the passive crossover to one pole on the mid and putting the first pole via a bespoke small input cap for the new LF100 should be straightforward.... Or perhaps full passive line level crossovers between the bass and mid/tweet head.
The LF driving the bass on the Alon IVs is stunning, and without the intermediating reactive crossover, it will hopefully be even better. I was going to get a LF55 for the mid/tweet duties, but for that cost, a no brainer.
For the seller of a LF amp, the lack of public awareness of their excellence (with the right fit, both objectively and subjectively) works against them. But for the buyer who knows the amp, it provides IMO, one of the greatest bargains in audio, which is now why ITS MINE. :D

Congrats Paul!  Let me know if you decide one 100LF is enough...

I agree totally. Great pickup, Paul. TWO LifeForce 100's!
Though I couldn't really use a second one on my 2-ways (horizontal bi-amping would be overkill and possibly not provide an audible benefit anyway) I'm still envious. I guess JHarris really loves his Quads. I think I'd have been seriously considering keeping the LifeForce and selling the Quads.  aa

Good score, Paul.  And, that was quick on the trigger, too!
