Thanks!!!!!

Archive.org is about the only site i download from now....so much for Bit Torrent & Furthernet.

If you're into Charlie I have droves of his jazzfest performances from 5yrs back.  just gotta dig them out if interested.

Its SO much fun to be all wasted at Tipitina's & see him jam.  The Garage-A-Tois shows are my favs...i have a thing for Skerik i think...   :o

Lots of good tunes & info on this 'scene' at my buddy's website.   www.silverwrapper.com

Mofro tomorrow @ HOB, yeah!

I saw him play in a small club a few years back, and left early. He was that bad! He's since returned to that same club every year, and the crowd gets smaller every year.

bad? Charlie Hunter?
I guess I have not heard many 10 string bass/guitar players to compare to.

The first time I saw him was on the David Letterman show over a decade ago.  Thought he was really good, so when I found out later that he would play in Central Park (NYC) every weekend in the same spot, I made it a point to go check him out.  Bought a CD, and while I thought it was entertaining, I found it to be somewhat limited in style...sort of the way I found Stanley Jordan to be on guitar.  But in the last few years, I've noticed he's made a few appearances on some CDs by a bunch of jam bands (eg. Stanton Moore's All Kooked Out), and he seems to have increased his range....

On his own i might fall asleep during a show but toss in Skerik, Mike Dylan, Stanton Moore, Robert Walters...any of the bad-ass' in that scene and Charlie starts to rip.  His Bob Marley cover cd is one of my favorites too.

If you want to check out some wild, esoteric stuff of his with other great musicians do check out Silverwrapper.com

I like funk.  When Charlie gets funky its a lot of fun.

Now, aren't 10 string gee-tarists a dime a dozen today?   gettin up close and watching him play is wild.  how one earth he keeps the bass lines going is amazing...

He was a very nice on the phone when I chatted with him, a pretty

I sat thru most of his performance, and noted right away that the bass was cut off early as well as the treble. After we looked his instrument over we seen why. The one I looked at was an eight string comprimise. Have a listen to Fareed Haque or Royce campbell.

Fareed Haque used to be the MAN in our circle.  he helped put Silver Wrapper on the map.

I only say 'used to be' 'cuz he won't get crazy with us anymore...his wife probably put a stop to that!  Fareed is an amazing guitar player, nice guy too.    i believe he occasionally teaches a Jazz course at Northwestern Univ.

Look for legal downloads of Robert Walters' 20th Congress with Fareed sitting in.  Shows in Chicago only probably, or maybe NOLA jazzfest in '03.

those 2 really liked to tear it up together.

For over 3 years of my life here Fareed was like cheese & made everything better.  a mediocre show (which i'd go to 3x a week) would get wild when he showed up, leather liederhosen & all.

I guess I've heard Fareed play three times now, and each time he just seems to get better. Think he's hooking up with Melvin Rhyne & Rob Dixon for a new CD to come out in the late summer or early fall (he told me, but I've slept since then so I'll find out from Rob or Melvin.) I've heard several songs that are going to be on it, and my personal favorite is Captin McDuff. If your into jazz you've probably heard Melvin set that B3 on fire, and maybe didn't know who he was. He was the original side man with Wes Montgomery, and plays on occassion with Nick Payton.
