Just In Case You Weren't Paying Attention.....
« on: 18 Apr 2007, 12:45 am »
....the new Nine Inch Nails CD came out today.

It's getting some pretty decent press. If you go to the NIN website you can listen to the entire, full length CD. I've heard about three or four tracks so far and it's pretty good. Kinda reminds me of The Downward Spiral (a little bit). It's in my shopping cart at Amazon.  :D

Thanks Scott.

NIN is a band that I will listen to for short bursts, followed by long periods of inactivity.

But I will say that when I want to listen to Trent and the boys, it nevers fails to deliver!!   :guitar:

Hi Scott,

Is it a good quality recording?

Btw no amplifier problems at the moment.  I've sorted out the zalytron speaker that i built and it sounds quite good, although i need a subwoofer now.

Regards

George,

I know what you mean about Trent but when I'm in the right mood, nothing quite fits the bill like blasting Closer as loud as you can take it  :green:

Speaking of the NIN concert, have you seen the video of Closer? Boy, talk about disturbed......that boy is seriously f'ed up.

Hey Rod,

Thats good news about your amps and speakers. I've kept up on your adventures. The recording quality seems to be pretty decent as best I can tell from the high bandwidth stream from their website. Should know more when the CD arrives sometime next week. After that, I'll have to track down the vinyl version too. Trent always does a vinyl release along with a CD (and of late a high rez digital format).  :thumb:

After playing a round of golf today I stopped by Best Buy and picked up Year Zero. I've only made through part of it but so far it's pretty good. Can't tell much about the recording quality since I was only listening in my car but this is one that begs to be played really LOUD.

Something really cool happens when you play this CD. When you pull it out of the case the the CD is black and it only has the words Year Zero on it but after you spin it in your player and it heats up, the label turns an off shade of white with black strips and has a bunch of ones and zeros on it (00111010100111010010).

Pretty cool the way they mess with your head  :green:

And then there is the warning label on the back of the CD.

Just in case this is too small it reads.....

Trent is quite the unique individual.  When I was in HS and into college, I worshipped NIN.  Their last album sucked as far as lyrics and style is concerned. Too much of the same old crap, where previous albums had gone off and done something different.

PHM, Broken, Fixed, TDS, Fragile were all pretty damn amazing.  I am not as angst ridden youthful as I used to be, so like George, I listen in bits and spurts.  I hope this one is more creative and inspired than the last.

P.S.  you have to see him in concert!!  I have seen him 4 times I think.  Each time amazed me.  The first time I saw him I was simply in awe....I was totally blown away, it wasn't anything like his album, much harder but not without order and melody.  I was just so impressed that they went to the effort to make it a different experience than the album.  And the live drummer is freaking insane!!  It wasn't the same drummer as far as I could tell on the last tour (the first was Bill Reiflen of many industrial bands fame), but still good, just not as hardcore insane as the first.

I have friends that hated NIN on album, worshipped Metallica and admitted that NIN in concert owned Metallica.

P.S.S. your thread title, reminds me of my favorite album by Ministry, a live album, titled "In Case you Didn't Feel Like Showing Up."  I think Bill Reiflin was the drummer on this tour as well.  I used to be a huge industrial fan.

If you never heard any other Ministry in your life, you should hear this one....  If you like NIN, you should try this one, it is what Trent was born out of, their mentoring. Trent did tour with them (Skinny Puppy, Ministry, KMFDM, Front 242 ala a few different super groups) and Trent did vocals on some of their side projects before ever putting out his own album.   This was the era that happened.

Read Amazon's descriptions and the reviews there, because they pretty much nail it.  link

Josh,

I've not caught them in concert though I really wish I'd gone when they came through town this last tour. Lyrically, this one isn't too bad.....at least form what I've heard so far. Like you guys, I can only take so much NIN in one sitting but when I've got that need......  :green:

This one is really heavy industrial, much more so than With Teeth. Like most of his albums, its hit and miss spanning the tracks. I think I was up to track 10 and there was two that I flipped to the next track about halfway through the song. The rest of them had plenty of 'groove' and enough noisy bits to keep me (and the people in the cars next to me) interested.

btw, I had to put in "The Fragile" because of this thread... hadn't listened to it in a while...

I like his heavier industrial, rather than poor goth me teeny pop "With teeth".  I like how he builds and builds, takes you to the edge of almost painful disonance and then brings you back with his idea of 'harmony', a bit like some baroque.

Josh,

I put that Ministry album in my shopping cart at Amazon  :thumb: I'll have to dig out my old Front 242 albums and give them a spin again. It's been a long time since I've listened to them.

Chris,

I think that USBM statement is a throwback to Orwell's 1984..... isn't it

Heres an Interesting Article that explains part of it.
