RM2 hookup to HT Reciever?
« on: 16 Apr 2007, 06:02 pm »
Building a "budget" system.  Going off the idea of "Get the best mains you can afford and build from there".

My Father-in-law has had VMPS STR's for years and they are AMAZING.

I'm looking at purchasing the RM2's.  My question that some of you dealers/installers may be able to help with is how to hook them up to a Home Theatre reciever?     (remember budget :duh: )  Or is there another method you would suggest on limited coin?

Thanks in advanced for any suggestions.  B has been great answering all my questions about product, but figured this one is a bit more broad?

Early B.

I wouldn't suggest hooking them up directly to an HT receiver, especially since they are 4 ohm speakers and most HT receivers aren't designed to handle them. You should consider purchasing a 2-channel amplifier and hooking the speakers to this amp, then the amp would plug into the front L&R preouts on the receiver using a pair of RCA cables.

The RM2 is available in 4 or 8 Ohms, so if the receiver is rated for 8 Ohms only simply order them that way.

I love you B!  Didn't know that about the RM2's, thought they were 4ohm only.  Thats what I get for not asking!

You just saved me a TON of internet research on 2 channel 4ohm amps....I can go home now!

Thanks again Brian!

Even if you order the 8 ohm version of the RM2's, you should still eventually buy a separate amp for improved sound quality. It would be ashamed to purchase such a great speaker and power it with an HT receiver. Luckily, you don't have to buy everything all at once.

I ran my 4 ohm RM2's off an 8 ohm Marantz HT reciever for a couple of months and I had no problems but I agree with Early B. that you should eventually upgrade to a better amp or integrated.

Early and Hmen - totally agree.  Gotta do it in baby steps until I find that money tree.

Already found the "Best bang for the buck".  = VMPS

Then to complete the rest of the HT w/ VMPS and start adding some Amps...maybe a Sub, but I think the RM2's will handle that duty for awhile w/o a sweat.

I used my 4 ohm RMs's with a digital Panasonic receiver and never had any problems. It sounded great.

I use the Behringer A200 for my subwoofer and it works great for that application. A few days ago I hooked it up to my VMPS Tower II's and it sounded like crap. I think Robby would be better off using the HT receiver instead of the Behringer until he could save enough money for a decent 2-channel amp.
