Don't know if they are the best sounding LP's, per se...but they are grabbed often for enjoyment:

Horowitz (boxed set from The Classics Record Library)

The Killing Fields - Mike Oldfield

The Trinity Session - Cowboy Junkies

The Trinity Session by the Cowboy Junkies is a stellar sounding LP.  I think I have a reissue of it by Classic Records.

Billie Holiday - Songs For Distingue Lovers 45RPM, single sided. Horribly expensive but worth it. Ben Webster's sax will send chills and Billie's voice can make you cry.

The question is discrimatory! In a stroke of the pen you have left out all us digital folks. :(

Take 'Aja' by Steely Dan, I just got that on cd and didn't think it was very good. But I guess if its on vinyl it must be good.

Yeah, it is....that overtly strong treble on the CD (found that on 2 other Steely Dan CD's) is still present, but well within limits on the album. And man, does the vinyl version boogie, too  8)

It's good on either format, but the vinyl one I have is better, too.

Come on Mag...ya' just know you need a turntable to know what us vinyl-unatics are talking about

The LP is good, really good if you can find an early pressing, especially the first two tracks. The rest of the album sounds like it was recorded in a different time and place. Some folks like the MoFi version as well. Sorry, I don't have a CD copy to compare.

my current "listen to how good vinyl sounds" selections:

- Traffic "on the road" live album.  no idea who pressed it (its back to the person I snagged it from)
but leme tell ya, its surreal.  I've not heard much in the way of 3D like this album.  The low spark
   is sick.

- Bob Dylan "New Morning".  Lent out.  but its an old copy and sounds really, really good.

- J. Giles Band "the morning after"    need an R&B fix?  look for this album

Right now my top 3 sounding lp's are:

Bright Eyes - It's Morning, I'm Wide Awake It's like Conor Oberst is in the room singin' and playing his acoustic guitar

Carly Simon - No Secrets (import) Great voice, great production and that great 70's analog warmth

Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La
