When it comes to Lowthers in a conventional enclosure, you need to be careful how its done because when you model these using their T-S parameters, you get a pretty healthy midbass suckout followed by a fairly sizable increase in the bass region at about 85Hz. The model pretty much matches what I experienced with a similar enclosure. Not to mention, of you are using an SET for amplification, there is a pretty significant rise in impedance that can deal your amp a fit.

Yeah, the A-N drivers in BR boxes are far from flat, that is for sure.  Experimentation yielded a setup with *slight* toe-in (any more than 10d results in excessive brightness) and duals subs crossed at about 85 Hz.  This works pretty well.  They have their problems, but have amazing strengths too.

That said, I don't think the impedance rise is any issue - it's not for my dinky Consonance 2A3 integrated amp.  In fact - though impedance *dips* wreak havoc with SETs (and tubes in general), I don't think a large rise causes a problem... of course, flat impedance is best!

Thanks for the note. I am not much into the technical aspects of these things so I rely on others. David Dicks from Commonsenseaudio.com makes his own drivers (Audio Nirvana) as well as sells Lowthers and Fostex, and seems to have been doing this for some time. I trust his judgment that his cabinets work for these drivers. I am sure there are other worthwhile implementations as well.

I have a pair of Rethm 2nd Rethms and really enjoy them. 

However what I noticed one of the other members mentioned, that
you do have to play to their strengths which is very true.  I run
mine full range and use a Tannoy TS-10 sub with great results.

I have used them with a number of SET amps from the Bottlehead
2a3's all the way to Wavac with excellent results.  I've even used
them quite a bit with the First Watt F1 and F3.

The coherency of a single driver is very hard to ignore and if I
had the room, I would keep an SET system set up at all times,
it is very musical.  I particularly like the implementation of
the Rethms too!  Jacob George is a very cool guy as well.

But after two years, mine are going up on audiogon next week.
Im returning to my first love, panels...

Just easier to work in my room.  If I had one more listening room,
I'd keep the Rethms hooked up full time there, they are a blast!!
