LED circuit on Cornet
« on: 4 Apr 2007, 05:24 pm »
I'm using a different power transformer which gives me about 340V smoothed HT.  When I switch on the preamp the LED immediately goes from red to green. I'm not sure the result of solid state rectification, or because I need to adjust voltage divider values connected to B+ (R107-R108).  If this is the case can someone please advise which resistor to scale down (or up?) and what value to try?

Thanks for a great sounding design.

If you are using SS rectifiers, then there will be virtually no delay before LED turns green, indicating high voltage is present.

My Cornet II changes to green in less than 3 seconds.  All components are as per build sheets.  I've tried different 5Y3GT's and a 5Y3G, all with the same results.
It was easy to build and sounds wonderful by the way, I'm just a little concerned that I might be abusing the cathodes.

Aren't most 5Y3 fast start?  Its just happens that the Sovtek 5Y3 is a slow starter.  Depending on what you've tried they may all be the fast type.

Maybe try a 5AR4/GZ34?  They are all slow start.  Its a drop in replacement (no other changes needed).  It'll give you a bit higher B+ voltage too.
