The amazing thing is that somebody paid the bucks buying new to begin with.  Even at 40% off that's $90k.  Ouch!

I have seen and heard these things, and know of one local audiophile who has a pair. He's a retired doc, is matching them with Wilson X1s of some later iteration. And yes, he's not interested in any audio gear unless it costs a fortune. Believe he's also using those $20k Transparent speaker cables that have topped several lists of the most obscenely over-priced gear on the market.

Wow, since they cost that much they must be the best amps ever made.

His cables are junk... if he's really wants the best he'd have Virtual Dynamics Genesis cables through out.  Depending on his system, that could easily cost a couple hundred thousand dollars...

So what are your impressions?

I heard the Krell MR amps at a demo show at the local hifi shop. Dan D'Agastino was there, and I believe the big Krell subwoofer was also a part of that show. The system was playing in a massive room, and most of what I remember is just the SPLs, even in that big room....volume levels were ear splitting, and the sub was literally shaking the walls. Wilson speakers were a part of that demo as well, as I recall...X1s, Maxes or Watt Pupplies, don't remember exactly...and the MR amps were driving them beyond their limits. This was right before or during the launch of Krell's speaker line, and I think they were trying to make a point....

So its hard to comment on the sound of the MR amps from that demo, other than that they have some horse power...

If you didn't have them modded for 110V/60Hz, you could take the money you "saved" and buy a condo on the beach somewhere where they do use 220/50Hz.

I suppose using them as headphone amps for AKG K-1000s would be excessive :bomb:

Hey!

Well, according to unit conversion I found online. That amp got 1.34hp per channel! :o

Man! And I'm here listening to my monoblocs with just 0.0241hp per channel

Take care,
