2 DVD Set Description:
A special one-time event documenting one of rock and roll's greatest and most unique performances. Recorded live at the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles, Roy Orbison is joined by an eclectic ensemble of rock and roll superstars. Highlighting this all-star line-up are Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett, J.D. Souther, Jennifer Warnes, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits.

I watched (and listened) to this last night over at a friend's house.  Wow...blown away!  I'm thinking of purchasing the cd from PBS.  Does anyone here have experience with the cd's that PBS has for sale on their website?  Does PBS produce them or are they merely reselling another label?

Probably quite jaded here, as every time PBS has a slot to fill, they play this concert. It was OK at first, but it's several years on, and---! :duh:

I've seen Roy Orbison live in a small venue at least five times, and the one thing that hits me first about him was that his live music had almost exactly the same sound as his recordings. Nothing phoney about him.
I remember watching the Cinamax Sessions when they first aired it about 20 years ago. Seems like I even taped it. Bought the CD and I like it, but the sonics are not anything to rave about. But the performance is of course outstanding. Wish they'd have brought it out on vinyl.

Ummm, it IS on vinyl.  At least my copy is.  BTW - the sonics aren't anything to rave about on the vinyl either.

As far as Mystery Girl; take a good listen to the title track vs. the rest of the album.  From what I remember (I'm typing this at work) Bono produced that cut, Jeff Lynne did the rest.  The title cut is sonically substantially better than the rest of the album, it sounds like an analog tube production (warm, deep, and wet) vs. a poor SS digital production (hyped upper mids, flat, just kinda blah.)

A couple weeks ago I picked up two Orbison LP's. One is mint, and the other was still sealed. Not sure Roy ever made a bad recording. Also glad to find out that I can buy B&W on SACD.
