I just discovered there's a new iPod Integration Kit available for select Model 2004 and newer Mercedes-Benz cars. *LINK*

I have a 2001 but I'm sure they can work around around that.

According to the website it requires a docking station connection and then the kit integrates with the iPod. My question is will I be able to utilize an iMod with this kit even though it connects to the docking station? Will I hear the benefits?

Hi isamu,

The iMod's line out exits from the 1/8" stereo jack, not the dock connector.  So this integration kit won't work with the iMod.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Hi and thanks for the reply Vinnie. I discovered it doesn't even use the docking station's line-out either. It basically uses the iPod only as a USB hard drive device and all the iPod functions are integrated into the kit's stereo. Oh well.

Let me ask you...what do you think about that new Alpine stereo with fully integrated iPod funtionality? It's getting rave reviews. I don't suppose it's possible for you to "iMod" an Alpine stereo to give it superior sound quality 'eh?  :green:

hey Isamu,

i plug my Imod right into the back of my Alpine car cd receiver...it works amazingly well.

There aren't any on-screen instructions, i still have to look at the Imod to work it...but the sound quality is fantastic.

Mine is a $200 base model & required a $10 adapter cable from Crutchfiled to accept the RCA inputs.  from the back of the receiver to my Imod is just a normal 3.5mm mini plug (1/4") to RCA male plug cable.

I've looked at the newer interfaces for cars, i don't see how they can do good things for the sound quality.  the interfaces are really so you can control Ipod through the stereo.   For me, the Imod sits about 4" from my hand, so hitting the NEXT button isn't putting me or others in danger - hopefully!

Imod in the car is awesome.

Thanks for the detailed reply bro. That sounds awesome.

Just to confirm, you have a Benz also? What year and model? If not, swapping out a stock stereo out of a Benz is a bit trickier. I need to get a whole new wiring harness and then install the Alpine. But for that much money and work I still don't see why I just shouldn't go all the way and get a carputer with a full blown Windows OS.

i drive a Honda Accord.  its the poor mans MB.

If your dash has a fully integrated cockpit, going aftermarket is a tough thing to do. shame to change anything in terms of aesthetics..

your dealership should have a solution for you.  If you don't need to control the 'pod through the cars controls, no doubt the dealer could get a normal 3.5mm to RCA cable to work through an AUX input...maybe snake it through & come out in a cupholder.   that's how mine is.

having that large a music capability in a car is fun, especially on long drives.  Satellite radio is good too.
