ESS AMT Heil Monitors (w/extras) Now sold!
« on: 26 Mar 2007, 01:52 pm »
ESS AMT Heil Monitors for sale or trade.  Relist due to buyer backout, and they've gotta go!  They are in good condition, and sound excellent.  The top of one side does have a discoloration of the wood however (spill perhaps???).  I have the manual for them as well.  They are a bit large for my small listening area, and with the birth of our second child, unfortunately they'll have to go - I've lost my larger listening area to a playroom....a great tradeoff though!  :D

Note that for the time being I am restricting to local trades only - I'm in Ottawa (Eastern/Southern Ontario area and Western Quebec) as these will be quite difficult and expensive to ship.   Looking any audio-related trades of equal value (CDP, TT, tube or SS integrated/pre/power, smaller speakers?).   You could part it out and get your money back and more!  However, they sound too good to suffer that fate....but that will be the fate by the middle of this week if they do not sell.   :(

Drop to $625 CDN for the speakers and manual!!

As always, pictures are available....see below.

Specs:

FR: 30-23,000 HZ +- 3db
Sens: 91 db (1m/1watt)
Imped. 6 ohms nominal
Power handling: 400 watts (clean music power)
Size: 39.25" x 15.6" x 15.8"
Weight: approx 100 lbs.
Heil Air Motion Transformer Tweeter w/ 12" woofer and 12" passive radiator.

Thanks!

Bump for lower price...

Lowered again....

TheChairGuy

wow - very good shape they are  :thumb:

Wish I lived closer to hear them (not in the Winter, tho, I'll stay here in Cali for that  :icon_lol:) - those Heil air motions were reported to be quite a treble transducer. I think I even remember they are very wide band...so the crossover to the mids is well below (the delicate) 2kz in these speakers.

A nice speaker for some lucky Canuck-er.

That looks like a *very* good deal considering most Heil tweeter pairs sell for $450/pr used as far as I've seen.  They look like really interesting monitors and like John, if I lived closer I'd be sorely tempted.

You sure you want to sell them? If they don't perform up to expectations have you considered reworking the crossover?  I know Rick Craig has done some work with some people of crossover work.  Maybe you could take measurements and subcontract him to help you design new crossovers.  Or you can use that as a selling point to someone else with the time and patience to do so.

Thanks Chair Guy and JoshK - unfortunately this sale isn't about sonics or lack thereof - it's more about freeing up space and resources.  I currently have 7 (yes, 7!  :icon_lol:) sets of speakers, and with 2 young children (one 2 1/2 and one 10 months) I just don't have time for projects and the hobby in general like I used to.  The Heil tweeter is the best I've heard as far as relaying impact in the highs (think cymbal crashes) and the faint subtleties  - stunning actually.  The speaker itself sounds pretty good as is, but there is a lot more performance to be wrought for sure.   :thumb:

Well understood here on all points above, Kev  :thumb:

The Heil's might be among the few treble emitters than would give me thoughts of trading in my Linaeum-tweeted speakers, I think.

I love heil tweeters When i built a set Selah audio Tanzinites i moved my Ess Performance 8's (had to downsize from amt-b's) over to a friends house. This last year was the first time since 1980 that their wasn't a set of ess speakers in the house If i was in driving distance i snagged them from you the first day you posted them.  I have just bought another kit RC5G's from rick other wise i would be still interested I bet they would make Humble Pie ROCK THE HOUSE

Wow, how is this for irony - one of the smaller speakers I've always wanted to try/buy was the Tanzanites.  :thumb:  I think they probably work extremely well in my room being a sealed box 3-way....

Hmmm....I am only 45 minutes away from the border and NY State....maybe I should include that as 'local' too!   :D

I actually built the front ported version for a little more base extension and allow me to place them closer to the wall. You would not be disappointed believe me they are nice
