Source Gain Adjustment - Analog modded SB3
« on: 26 Mar 2007, 03:22 am »
I have an SB3 with Wayne for full mods as I write this -

I understand that the modded analog output will be lower to some degree as a result of removing a portion of the SB3 output circuitry. I will be feeding the SB3 analog into the 6-channel bypass inputs of my Parasound AVC-2500u pre/pro. While these inputs do not involve the pre/pro's DAC or its digital processing, the source gain on each of the unit's inputs, including the pass-thru inputs, is adjustable by plus/minus 16 db.

I will certainly tinker with that when I receive the SB3 back, but I was curuous if any of the more technicla folks would care to venture a guess as to how much lower the modded SB3 would be - Would it likely be w/in the range of 16 db?

Thanks!

TomS

Should be well within the range.  I am using the Burson Buffer which increases it 6db.  Tom

With the sb3's opamp removed, the maximum output voltage is halved. So, you lose 6db with the mods, which is easily compensated for by your pre/pro's gain settings.

Thanks to both of you -

That's great news for me.
