Hello all...just joined the forum
« on: 23 Mar 2007, 05:54 pm »
Just found this forum, and it really looks like what I've been looking for...currently piecing together a mostly homebuilt two-channel system :)

My background has been in car audio, but I've gotten tired of the "more bass is better" mentality, I'm looking for a little more...mature discussion  :P

Anyway, I'll be posting up pictures as my setup gets completed, hope to be around here for a while.

Thanks guys. Figured I'd post up some of what I've done in home audio in the past...

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4178&c=189 - the current preamp I'm using, ARC SP9-MKII (love this thing  :P)

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4016&c=189 - one of the SV811 monoblocks, when I first fired them up

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4015&c=189 - the Decware Zen amp I had...wish I hadn't sold it :(

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4012&c=189 - Adire Audio Rava powered sub and a Klipsch Forte II (the Klipschs are sold now)

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4009&c=189 - circuit board on the Rogue Audio Model 66 (excellent build quality, really great - too bad it had a high noise floor)

http://www.carstereos.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4007&c=189 - Bottlehead Foreplay...cool little pre.

Think that's about it  8)

Welcome, if you are handy with a soldering iron and a screwdriver,
there is plenty of fun to be had on a reasonable budget!!

Welcome Jim, I too have a background in car audio, but am puzzled by the idea that more bass is not better?

Ha, the truth is, all other things being equal, I do usually like more bass than others, and having been spoiled by the cabin gain in cars, it is hard to achieve that tight, gut punching bass, that a 12 in a 1.25 sealed box will do with 500w on it, in a hatch!

There, I said it!

That sounds like the kind of setup I'd run.

What I don't get is the people running in excess of 4kW daily, to four 15's ported high  :|

I'm all for strong bass, but c'mon, have a semblance of having it blend with the front stage :D
