Non-piercing speaker stand feet - recomendations?
« on: 21 Mar 2007, 11:35 pm »
Hey all,

As I type, my bookshelf speakers are actually standing straight on the carpet (via stands) while playing music without any feet of any kind. I've been told this is a very bad idea - 'no isolation of the speaker'. However, due to the nature of my floor (carpet, but then asbestos tiles...no piercing must ever be risked), the standard spikes that come with my Atacama Nexus 6 (3/4 sand filled) are not suitable.

Thing is, I'm no expert on what 'non-piercing' feet are actually like. Would these be a dome shape? I have had the suggestion of dip-drilled 2 pence coins under the spikes as a cheap solution.

So basically, I'd be very happy to hear your suggestions for cheap, non-piercing speaker feet!  :)

I just went through the same experience...The simplest/cheapest solution I've found are carriage bolts. Go to Home Depot with one of your spikes and match the diameter and choose your length. With nuts they're about .25 cents each and you can paint them if needed. Voila!

I'm not sure if these are cheap enough but I liked these when I had hardwood floors in my listening area:
