home-labeled CD-Rs stuck in transports
« on: 21 Mar 2007, 06:47 pm »
Does anyone know how to extract a CD-R stuck in a transport? I found out after the fact that when you put slightly raised label-art on a disc, some CD or DVD transport have trouble ejecting them. The disc was a gift to my wife from one of her music students, and I hadn't heard about this problem before playing the thing in the Pioneer deck that came with my new car. I've been looking forward to replacing the P. with a much better deck anyway-- but now this. The dealer won't do anything for me under the warranty, because of what caused it. Can anyone help?

                                                          Thanks,           Shakur Rucker

Perhaps the label started coming off from the heat melting the adhesive. You will have to take the cover off and see if you can get at the transport and the cd stuck in it. I would first find out what has happened to the lable. Is it coming off? If so you may have to do some surgery to cut away protruding pieces so that the cd-r can be removed. As always, disconnect power before going into the cabinet.

Hey!

Ouch! That is why I never use that kind of label on my CDRs.... I just use a CD/DVD marker.

Well, if your transport is a tray type than I guess you could just pop the cover off and take it out. But if it is one of those slide in type than I think it will more difficult to open it. :?

  Anyway good luck.

Take care,

I think he's talking about a automotive CD player, a.k.a. 'deck'.  Not a transport per se.
