I listened to Saxophone Colossus which i borrowed from local library. It was awesome. I recognize that the cover is Hi-Fi LP. So i decide to purchase this album . However, when i look in amazon.com i also see this album recorded in 20-bits
http://www.amazon.com/Saxophone-Colossus-20-Bit-Mastering/dp/B00000K0YC/ref=m_art_pr_16/002-1738614-7780819

Is it better than the regular one (i guess 16 bits recording)?

thanks .

The one I have is in mono anyway, so I am not convinced that the bit count matters that much.

Love the music though!

I have this one and really like it.  http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_detail.cfm?Title_ID=10722&sct=music

Same Hoffman remaster on hybrid SACD as well.

I have the XRCD version and it is really very good (albeit mono).  I also have the 20-bit Prestige version of Sonny Rollins' Way Out West which I also find to be excellent.  Both are much better than the "regular" versions of the CDs I've heard.

(btw - the "20-bit" refers to the resolution during the re-mastering process...all of these CDs are finally released as regular redbook 16-bit CDs)

Thanks.

I think i'll get the 20bits version and compare to the regular one which one of my friends also owns it.

I have some French release of this and, even though it probably is quite "regular" compared to the DCC remasters, I'd still consider it reference-grade.  Great performance.

I have the re-released 180gr mono LP and IMO it is possibly the finest recording ever made.

Anyone here done a comparison with any of the better recordings against the 45RPM Classic reissue? Just looking to see how much I should be poking myself in the eye for not having gotten it when it came out.  :slap:

I bet the 45s sound the best.  I don't have this one, but from my other 12" 45s I can say that they generally sound much better than the 33 LP counterpart.  But, man, it's not worth the extra dough for the privilege of having to flip the record after every other song.

   Yup,
The 45 series is killer. Yes it is a pain in the arse but man, well worth the effort. Check out Sonny on the Plus Three album. His tribute to 911 Without a Song is a must have if you like Sonny as well
