Ok, I'm Going To Try Out eBay

As an alternative to audiogon, I am running an experiment here with eBay.  Curious if I will get the same sort of response.  Perhaps this brings in a whole new set of eyeballs?

Its a good idea, no doubt.   a smart way to spend a few bucks to test a new & huge market.

Last night I listed a used Nitty Gritty RCM on ebay and this morning someone paid my price, and
they are from Germany.   Hope they know its 110V!

If nothing else, you will reach a few customers who otherwise wouldn't be familiar with your products.

years ago I sold a 400CD sony changer on ebay for $400 more than i pd for it (which was retail)....sometimes auctions can be wild too.

great idea. most audiophilics troll ebay looking for something. There is the "Watching" thing and favorite seller thing and you can send out preriodic emails advertising the lastest for sale items.

You can always start bidding at higher than a dollar.

I've discovered I get higher final bids when I start at $1.  It is definately been true at audiogon.  Psychology in action.  My guess is that the possibility of a steal gets a number of interested parties hooked in early.  Nothing like a bidding frenzy to make an item look popular or desired.  I think on the last day, an item with ten or twenty bids will be looked at more seriously than an item with one or two.

You might also want to try the "Buy it Now" option as an added experiment, once you see how high free market bidding might go for a particular unit. There are many people who would pay a reasonable price right away, without waiting on an auction and the final minutes to hopefully walk away with it.

Enjoy,

I have bought many pieces on Ebay and I had to fix all but one of the HI-FI pieces that I bought. My Dynaco Pat-4 had a broken wire to the output but was touching the contact so it would be intermittant. The Dynaco FM-5 had three wires that were never soldered, it would sometimes just go to sleep. All 3 Aoustic Research turntables needed new motors, new belts and two needed total rebuilds. All were claimed to work "flawlessly". My Dynaco Stereo 120 blew a channel out shortly thereafter (I had Audio by Van Alstine make it into a 170ex), and my Harmon Kardon T25 turntable came poorly boxed and the platter came loose, bending the spindle plate and breaking off the finger lift on the headshell. My 2 pairs of Dynaco A25XL's needed work with one blown tweeter in one (hard to find) and both blown on the other. Of course the sellers in all instances said they were "mint" and work perfectly. My VPI that I bought from Kevin was perfect and has been really the only thing I haven't had to fix. Yea, I could have sent them back, but what a waste of money that is too. I know how to fix things so I fix them. Obviously, Dyanco stuff is always a gamble because most were kits and they are old. I'm glad I have them as I'm listening to the Dynaco FM-5 tuner right now and it is a great tuner.

Not saying your experiences are going to be like mine but be prepared and if you sell stuff, there are a lot of freaky people out there. Most are nice, a few not so nice.

Good luck!

Ok, the Clarinet sold.  No profit, but it removes some inventory I no longer need.  Trying it again with a CORNET2.

$500 for a new, JH-built Cornet2?  Mine cost me more than that to build!!  This is a steal.  This is bargain-basement pricing.....IMHO these products deserve more...Think on this Boss...

I'm sure that if you bid (and won) Jim's auction, then the Ebay scare is not really an issue.  Wether he's seling it through Ebay, Audiogon, or the flea market, the unit comes with a 30 day trial (as per ad) and built by the man himself so no worries.

If someone wins the Cornet 2 at $500 bucks, buy the lottery ticket for that week also because the man upstairs is smiling at you.  Better take advantage of it while it last!

regards to all......

I have been eBaying for close to 9 years now, and have never bought a piece of audio gear that did not work as advertised.  Guess I have been lucky.  I have bought Superbit DVD's from Malaysia that ended up being coasters, but you had to know I KNEW that was a risk, at $6 compared to $56!

I think eBay is a fun place to troll, and watch for gear I used to own, or would own "at a price".

I agree with Jim, that is my selling experience (dwarfed by my buying urges!) the $1 starting price tends to attract more folks, and higher eventual bids.

Ouch, I paid $600 for my pre-assembled Coronet and thought I was getting a deal. This is a steal for anyone who is looking for one of these baby's.

Enjoy,
Bob

I'm the lucky guy who bought the first Clarinet that Jim had on ebay. Let me just say that this thing is incredible...a bargain at full retail.

One 47kOhm impedance and a fixed output of 44dB, correct? Are there other gain or impedance loading options?

Resistance isn't directly adjustable, but the board is very nicely laid out so you could pretty easily switch out the resistor (if you are comfortable with a soldering iron).

I just finished mine last week and it sounds amazing.  I'm having to share the sweet spot with my wife (only 1 good seat), but its on right now.
