Saw a post on this at hi rez today

http://www.highfidelityreview.com/news/news.asp?newsnumber=19363192

The marketing guys at Sony and Philips must have thought this one up.

I thought SACD was doing well now, but they have to do this to it.  Wonder if it will help or hurt, in the long run.

Be interesting to see how it all pans out now.

For chrissakes, what a bunch of f'in idiots! It's been tough enough talking people into buying into a new format, and now that we have they want to burn us by changing it only a few years in?!  Yeah, where do I sign up for that!  :banghead:

I'm getting sick of the raging paranoia over piracy.  Has there every been a ring of SACD pirates busted?  I've yet to hear of it.

If Sony and Phillips want to make DVD-A players why not just drop SACD altogether?

If those squabling brats aren't careful, the de facto standard for all music will be MP3! :o

I honestly don't care if I will not be able to play the video content from my SACD player but if they make it so the SACD II's are encrypted such that they cannot play on legacy SACD players I personally will never buy another SACD again (unless it is a legacy SACD title).

I'm not crazy about DVD-A's anyway, so I can't get excited about SACD II.

Concert DVD's (video) are great!
Vinyl is great

CD playback is sometimes better than vinyl, sometimes not, but in anycase is very close.

Who needs another new format?????

Hell as soon as you buy that SACD II player they will release Blu-Ray  :o

Then 3 years later BRII

I was joking, but I have to clarify that I meant the standard for audiophiles.  So far the only guy I know that's really serious about MP3 here is Witchdoctor (and I plan to pick his brain for some advice as I'm not getting what I want w/MP3).

Sure, mp3 eclipsed CD years ago for freeloading college music pirates.  But once I heard DVD-A I knew that no MP3 would ever satisfy me totally.
