Whatcha working on Wayne?
« on: 6 Mar 2007, 05:06 pm »
I've heard through the grapevine that there is a possibility of something new as far as mods on the SB(3).

What's the status on the Burson Buffer situation?

Inquiring minds want to know.    :P

Cheers

There are new products and additions that are being working on.

As with everything, it takes twice as long and 10 times the money as originally thought

The Burson "alliance" will open up many new additions to the BOLDER line-up.

I hope to be able to offer US built versions of the Burson Buffer and possibly, down the road, a "pre-amp" with passive switching and volume control with a Buffer after it.

Burson is very busy right now with the introduction of their power amplifier. They will not have any Buffer power supplies or circuit boards for shipping to me for at least a few weeks. Then comes the long and expensive time to design a chassis for the Buffer. Luckily I have been getting some help on this front from an AC member in the industry.

In the blue-sky-dreaming-that-maybe-some-year-it-might-happen department: it might be nice to try to integrate the Buffer and a Squeezebox in a single chassis. That would be a LOOOONG time off and a LOT of money invested before that would happen.

Let the drooling commence!

If his initials are Dr. Lloyd, I'm very excited!

Thanks for the update, Wayne.

Are you expecting to offer only the 'full' buffer w/ chassis etc, or also the bare assembled op-amp boards?  I have the parts for a UcD coming, and the idea of replacing the front-end 5532 with a Burson discrete op-amp rather than the 'normal' 4562 etc is intriguing.

At this time, my plans are only for offering an assembled Buffer.

Op-amps and regulators would best be ordered direct from Burson.

I have not had good experiences as a "retailer" selling DIY parts.

Amen to that!

Maybe we can talk about this someday... I'm in the early stages of possibly forming a small company with one or two other guys and who just might want to take on something like this, especially if it was to be done up in a very nice hardwood case.  The one guy already has a cabinet shop and as he says, is tired of making fancy kitchen cabinetry and wants to do something audio (again.)

So, maybe...

Fair enough. I was just hoping to make use of the 'local' opportunity.
