PMC IB2 owners, please speak up

Could you please share your experience relative the speakers’ position?
What is the height of the stands you are using?
Do you find the best listening position to be when you have ears in the level of the midrange drivers?
Since I will be seating low, 14” PMC stands sound like the right solution, would you agree?
Is 14” too low considering the proximity of the LF driver to the floor?
Did you fill up stands with something, and to what level?

I enjoy them most mid-field (about 10 feet away and about 9.5' apart)

What is the height of the stands you are using?
17" + 1" spikes = 18"

Do you find the best listening position to be when you have ears in the level of the midrange drivers?
No, it's better when your ears are lower than the driver IMHO. I have spoken to James about this in the past and as I recall, he agreed. My ears are 4" below the center of the mid range driver

Since I will be seating low, 14” PMC stands sound like the right solution, would you agree?

How high is your seating? My ears are about 36" from the ground and my mid range drivers are 40". I know from personal experience that the 4" gap works incredibly well.

Did you fill up stands with something, and to what level?
I filled them with led. The are almost as heavy as the speakers. I filled them up to within about 5" of the top

Thunder,

Thank you for sharing your experience.
In the meantime I arrived to a similar conclusion, ears below MF driver, just above LF.

What speaker cables and amplification are you using?
Cabling drives me crazy now, what I had with previous two-way speakers does not work well with IB2.

Sasha, I run balanced Canare interconnect cable to amps that physically sit next to the speakers on Silent Running stands. I am tri-amping, using 7BSST for the bass driver and a 4BSST for tweeter/mid-range. Speaker cable is the exact same as that used inside the speaker cabinet and as such, are different gauges for each of the drivers. I got the cable through a freind who also has Bryston/PMC combo - ordered from somewhere in the UK I believe. This simple and relatively low cost speaker cable solution clearly outperformed the more expensive Audience AU24 cables I was using at the time. It also outperformed an expensive Kimber cable my friend was using. We were both astonished at the result and would never use another cable after what we heard.

What amps and cables are you running?

Hello,

according to PMC professionnal MB2 sheet,
but they told me at pmc it's the same for IB2S
hear has to be at 10° down the axis of the midrange speaker

Thunder,

I will be using Bryston 4BSST (has not arrived yet) to power LF, and Linar class A (2X50W to drive MF/HF).
In the end it may not be the final amplification, the two amps have the same gain but different sensitivity, I do not know how it will sound.
Speaker cables I have right now is Acoustic Zen Satori bi-wire, I thought I would use it for MF/HF, they result in incredible depth to the soundstage but are sort of anemic, sound is not dynamic when used with IB2.
For LF run I was thinking Kimber 8TC.
Wire used inside the speaker cabinet sounds very interesting, any way to get the contact info for the company that sells them?
BTW, what preamp are you using, how did you manage to run balanced ICs to multiple amps?

Yenkell,
That angle pretty much describes what sounds right to me, based on what I heard so far.

^ Sasha, I'll see if I can get that contact info for you WRT speaker cable. BTW, I belive that my friend was using the same Kimber cable as you and the PMC cable definitely out performed it.

I'm using a BP26 as a pre-amp and SP2 for HT. I have a passive IC switcher to handle the two different sources - custom built.

Are you from Canada?
