SAS 10a with $300 tubes
« on: 3 Mar 2007, 07:29 pm »
Serial number 132, made in early '05.  This doesn't have the most recent updates, but they can be done by Steve for $200 if I remember correctly.  I can ship it straight to him for the updates if you want, but as is I compared it very favorably to the Modwright, with better prat in my system.  Bound for sound gave it an amazing review.

I'm including the platinum matched version of fancy Siemens E88CC tubes from Upscale Audio, which cost $340 unless you happened to "buy the gear there".  I bought them second hand on A-gon from a good guy with 20 or so positive feedbacks.  He said he put about 100 hrs on them.  I probably added another 100.  They are Siemens E88CC.

Reason for selling: I might be quitting my job, traveling, and having an all around kick-ass summer/fall.  I don't really have any "savings" per se, just a bunch of money tied up in this hobby ()...and my mortgage company won't accept gear as payment.

I'm asking $1k and I'll cover insured Fed-Ex shipping.

Thanks, it should be good.  I'll have my plans more finalized in about a week, but I might get to see Utah, Vegas, Central America, Bucks County PA, San Fran, and Armenia....and all for very little dough.

Bump, check out my A-gon feedback here:  http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fb.pl?user=Maxwalrath&&&&

Price drop $950 shipped.

bump...for $950 you get a pre that easily competes with the Modwright and a stellar pair of tubes.

edited....I have Siemens E88CC's from Upscale, not the 188's I originally linked to in my first post.  The 88's are at this link, not the link I originally provided.

It is double boxed and ready to ship.  It includes the original JJ tubes in addition to the Upscales.  It's a 7/10 condition-wise due to a scratch on the faceplate that isn't visable from more than a few feet.

$925.

Thanks....Utah, Arizona and Vegas were done (and AWESOME), but unfortunitely the Central America and San Fran plan got nixed for various job reasons.  On the plus side, I'm going to travel by rail through Europe on my way to Armenia.

$750.  Final price drop....can't go lower.  Again, this compares very favorably to the Modwright.

Well folks,i just recieved the SAS 10A tube linestage preamplifier from Maxwalrath including the pair of vintage NOS siemens A-frame E88CC's and it is so good that i feel like i stole this preamplifer for the $750.00 that i paid for it. a very nice build Quality and a realistic transparent sonic presentation. Kudos to Steve Sammet for a outstanding tube linestage, thanks alot Max  :thumb: ....WCW III

Glad you like it Bunky!  And yeah, you kinda did steal it.  It's a shame that the SAS isn't a flavor of the month type of item.....as I was lowering the price, I was cursing the hi-fi market where because it isn't a much-hyped item I came up losing a bunch of cash.  It's the real deal.  I did the Modwright/SAS comparison in my house, and it doesn't come up short in the least.

Anyway, glad you're happy.  That scratch was a little uglier in the light than I thought it would be (earlier this week was the first time I viewed it in the light, my living room is pretty dim), but performance-wise I don't think you can do better for the bucks than you did.  And everyone who didn't buy it, yeah, you missed out.  :D

Yeah they lost out,i was not shopping for a tube preamp when i saw your final price reduction but that little voice in my head whispered for me to Buy it! this is my fourth tube preamplifier and i have eight pre's total at my house.i guess that i might have a thing for preamplifier's  the SAS 10A will go with my Sonic Frontiers Sfs 80 in my second all tube rig and the mighty Candela will stay with my mono extreme SE's
