Hey Marbles. Jap Strats are supposed to be good. Dimarzio was one of the first aftermarket pickups and have a strong following. IMHO a good guitar is one the musician feels comfortable playing. The most important thing is to make sure it is setup properly. Stuff like neck geometry, string height and intonation. Keep the strings clean (wipe down after each use) and change them fairly often if he plays a lot.  Get a 'peg winder', a cheap tool that makes changing strings a lot easier.

What do you have for an amp?

If we all get together again, we'll have to have a jam session!

give my regards to the family,

Anyway, how are the Dimarzio pick-ups?
Their very good pickups Rob...been around a long time. I own a few...mostly their humbucker styles, mounted on slide in modular units that I would slide into a Dan Armstrong/Ampeg guitar (for different tones).
Sounds like you got a good deal for your son....now on to the Mesa or Marshall Dual Stack's...... :guitar:

The Japanese Strats are very good. I used to own one and loved it. Much better than the current ones made in Mexico. Those pickups are nice too. This Strat will be a nice upgrade from the BC Rich IMO..

Good Luck!

..they had a LOT of used guitars...one called out to me though. It is a '71 Gibson SG Deluxe with a Bigsby (sp). I was able to fondle it and play a bit on it and it just felt RIGHT.

I have never played any instruments, but this one really got me thinking. Anyway, it had a neck repair and one of the pickups had been replaced, so it had a lower price than it otherwise might have, but it still was pretty spendy. It does have me thinking though....
Well....If you get yourself a jumpsuit....

Any of you guys have any thoughts on a '71 Gibson SG Deluxe w/bigsby?
The neck repair would worry me....in good condition a  '71 Gibson SG Deluxe would sell for $1,300.00 to $1,600.00 .....what was the spendy price ?
