Since everything is down from last year it would be nice to know the total percentage of down from last year.  That way if the entire music industry sales are down 12%, rock being down only 8% is a "good" number.

The sales downfall couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of assholes IMO.  After decades of screwing the consumer in very publisized ways, they can't figure out why people feel they have the right to get their music from shared sources.

I just read today that the RIAA is lobbying for lower royalty rates they pay to artists...
So ok, not making enough money...lets pay the artist less... how greedy are these people.

So I just found the link for this: http://gear.ign.com/articles/749/749883p1.html

If I understand this article correctly it's just sales by the music companies. I wonder how many people buy used CD's? They make up the majority of my purchases now, generally through Amazon Marketplace. I am guessing that more people are ripping and selling their CD's.

Interesting link; I don't condone stealing music, but the RIAA deserves every bit of what's coming to them. Wait...wait...suing your customers, totally ignoring/denying technological and societal trends, and charging more for a soundtrack to a movie than the DVD of the movie itself....is not good business practice? Hmmm...
I consistently buy 6 - 8 cds a month, but I'd say 90% of the time it's used discs or indie artists. From the ashes of the RIAA will rise a new, competent music distribution business.
