Pretty Big Announcement !!!
« on: 24 Feb 2007, 09:22 am »
OK guys,

I'm finally in a position where I can make an official announcement for 2 new products.

1.  Epiphony II.   Courtesy of Alex,  who did most of the work.  I only did the listening and criticizing.

Scoop:  Brand new design.  Has absolutely nothing,  0  in common with the original ones.  We don't have them OEM'd anymore,  building them in house,  and overall,  we now have nearly twice (yes,  2 x)  the amount of $  in parts with much higher quality cabinets and drivers,  etc.  than before.  Also,  because we do it ourselves now,  we have the qc under control ourselves as well.  Actually,  I'll be in charge myself for all speakers now.

Changes:  bigger, fully veneered cabinet made by a custom furniture maker,  conveniently located only 2.6 miles from us.  Phenomenal cabinetries.  Looks exactly like a Lorelei mini-me.
We went from 2nd order to 1st order x-over,  more of a direct and purist approach for my sonic performance goals.  Drivers:  also a big upgrade here. Cables - Groneberg Quattros,  Connectors WBT's

Sound:  Well,  very,  very nice.  On a good recording,  the massive wall of sound coming at you is breathtaking and to die for.  Absolutely fills any space perfectly.  Also,  I would call it polite, but precise.  A bit on the harmonically rich side with tons of emotions (here I go again).  Biggest thing for me is that you can literally  listen for hours without a hint of fatigue.

Cost:  Right now we're looking at around $ 700.,  which is a gift considering the production cost.

Available:  we start shipping the first 12 pairs next week.

Negatives:  Well,  the price is up a hundred bucks.  Also,  the $ 1,500 / $ 1600  complete system will go up a bit as well.  You still need stands.

Options: We'll have some very,  very cool and brutal looking wings planned for them in the future,  which can be retro-fitted.  Will actually improve the sound b/c of the rear port design.  Will make the speaker appr. 30 - 35 " deep.  Veneers:  same as before,  plus custom stains.  Also,  we'll ship the first lacquer Loreleis early next month,  and we'll have a complete color line available with the exception of piano black,  which is a pain in the a$$.

2.  Our new midline speaker:
Scoop:  With the demise of the Nightingales,  we now have a void in our lineup. Enter the new speaker.  I don't want to call it the Nightingale II's,  because it is not even close in looks,  and actually,  the Nighties never really took off,  to be honest.   This will be different,  big time now.

Changes:  It is essentially a scaled down version of the Loreleis.  Same identical 90 % version cabinet.  4 " less from the bottom.  Same x-over design as with the Loreleis. ScanSpeak tweeters (of course)  and an Usher woofer,  which is really a near perfect copy of the ScanSpeak unit,  sounds very good,  and is much less $$$.  After all,  these speakers are build for the bang for the buck.  Of course,  WBT's and Groneberg cables.

Sound:  Expect exactly that Lorelei sound.  Sweeeeeet.

Cost:  Projected (not 100 % finalized yet)  @  $ 1,700.

Available:  We take orders now and start the first 6 pre-orders 3rd week of March.

Negatives:  For the money,  none whatsoever.  None.  I am completely,  absolutely happy with them.  Well,  for us  maybe there is one negative in that the speakers are so good and so close that we'll lose some Lorelei sales for people who don't want to have the extra nth degree of performance.  I am aware of that.

Options:  Same veneer and color choices.

3.  Loreleis:  Hehehe,  no changes planned whatsoever.  After all, how can we possibly improve this $ 8,200  German SL  design at this point ????

I believe that at the price points of $ 700,  $ 1,700,  and $ 2,700 we are very, very reasonable, and offer the right cost spacing with  some nice units for most people.
We'll add some pictures here very soon.  Alex ???

Hope that this is of interest,

Klaus

Klaus, congratulations to you and Alex regarding these products joining the Odyssey lineup. I'm sure I and other forum members will look forward to seeing some photos. Also, I can hear some future home audio-related conversations already, "Well dear, these speakers really are a great deal. I mean, this Odyssey midline speaker has the same x-over design as the Loreleis. They've got ScanSpeak tweeters and an Usher woofer, which is really a near perfect copy of the ScanSpeak unit - it sounds very good and is much less costly.  After all, these speakers are a great bang for the buck. And of course, they come with WBT's and Groneberg cables. How could I say no? What color do you want?"

Klaus, what are you doin' to me!  I absolutely love my Epiphonies.  I can't imagine another, better, version coming out.  Grrr. . .

On top of that, you now have a midline Lorelei!  Just when I thought I wasn't going to have to drop any more money into my system for a while. . .Klaus, you're killin' me.  Why couldn't my tax return have been bigger this year.  I'll trade ya an Etesian and my "obsolete" Epiphonies for a deal on the Lorelei Jrs. . .

Great news, Klaus.  You're a stand up businessman and a lover of audio.  Even though I've only bought a couple of things from you, I won't hesitate to come to you first when it's time to buy something new.

Now, how 'bout an update on that website. . .

Does this mean you have severed ties and your working relationship with Alain Courteau?

That's what he indicated to me and TomS last night.

Yeah, it sounded like he local cabinet connection in Indy smooths out his "supply chain" a lot and allowed Klaus the chance to improve the designs and expand the offerings as well (e.g. mini-me Loreleis).  Good news for everybody.

I received my Lorelei's in cherry veneer from the new cabinet source that Klaus mentions in his post a few weeks ago and they are magnificent.  The speakers are truly amazing.  They are similar to the ProAc 2.5's that I owned a few years back with much stronger bass response more detailed treble.  The midrange is as good, which was the ProAc strong suit, and the sound stage is deeper and wider.  I understand that the electronic components are what most of us think of when we think of Odyssey Audio and they are incredible performers at very low price points.  That being said I would not be surprised if the speaker line is where the greatest value lies.

Congratulations Klaus on your new speaker offerings.

I had the Loreleis driven by a single Berning EA-230 which wasnt really enough and the Loreleis simply were phenomenal...I never got that bass as i needed more power....But they are great sounders and lookers..I just wish Klaus would come out with some outriggers so walking infants cant topple them down.

Sounds like a knockout lineup Klaus, congratulations.  :thumb: Have you thought about a Nemisis (do-over) center channel speaker that'll better matchup sonically with your new lineup(and especailly the Lorelei's)? Those Usher drivers would be a good place to start for sure.  :D

Whitese,
I don't know what shape these speakers are, but I thought these http://soundocity.com/ were a good idea. Never tried 'em.

Congratulations Klaus on your new speaker offerings.

About three years ago I almost started a project to build Proac 2.5 clones, but finished out in something I liked a little better. Had actually made a deal with a buddy of mine to build the cabnets (he'd have to make six identical pieces). Said it'd be a piece of cake.
I was to furnish all the hardware, and a third party was going to finish them out electrically. Just got too busy at work to persue it further (just found all the drawings last weedend). Those Proacs have always been one of my very favorites, but have always been way out of my budgit (I have ex wives you know). So what you say opens another door for me. Just how much more bass do your speakers have than the 2.5's? I'm using Meadowlarks right now with little if any complaints, but it's well known that I'm speaker shopping as I write this.
