16-3 power cord as speaker wire?
« on: 24 Feb 2007, 03:13 am »
Any reason this wouldn't work?  I have a bunch of old power extension cable.  You know, the orange kind you use to power lawn tools like leaf blowers or hedge clippers.

Well I cut back the green ground wire and just connected the black and white's with bare wire....and I get no sound.  Wierd.  I thought I'd get something, regardless of quality.  BTW, it's a 6m run.

I was trying to do the HD-14 thing with some existing 16-3.

I'll have to trouble shoot this a little bit tomorrow just to make sure I've hooked it up right.  But I'm pretty sure I have.

Any thoughts?

If you cut the green ground at both ends & hooked up the white & black wires you will get sound. If not something else is wrong. Bouble check all connections. Whether or not they perform up to your expectations is entirely up to your ears.

Problem solved.  It was a bad interconnct.  Darn cat chewed through it

So I'm using the power cables as speaker cables for my center channel.  They work, but not very well IMO.  They'll have to do for now though.

Thanks!
