Transporter sound XLR v RCA
« on: 23 Feb 2007, 09:00 pm »
I have always listened to my TP using balanced IC's.

I never understood why anyone thought the TP was hard or bright on the top end.

When I compared it to a full tilt BolderSB I thought the TP was a bit smoother on the top and more resolving at the same time.

BUT.........................recently I compared the TP using RCA v XLR. Both with XLO Signature IC's.

THe RCA was a little bit hard  on the top. Still good, but not as good as the XLR.

Has anyone else tried this?

I've only tried the RCA outputs to my amp. I don't own any balanced IC's even though my amp will take them. Now I'm tempted to try it.

Does the TP using it's RCA outputs still sound better than a "full tilt BolderSB?"

W/O having both on hand to compare it is hard to offer an opinion.

Looking at my notes I liked the TP w XLR midrange , bass and top end more than the Bolder. I thought the TP had more of the prat thing.

I thought the TP was a bit more resolving but still with a refined top end.

The RCA TP still has all the prat but it is less liquid on piano high notes and cymbals.

I am interested to see if anyone else has compared the balanced to unbalanced.
