My computer tech bought this really cool black case for his computer, that's advertised as being specially designed to be quiet, and the thing is frighteningly quiet. It wasn't a whole lot of money either. I'll post the link when I find out what the name of it is.

That would be the Antec P150 or Solo (black, slightly updated version of the P150).  Both have a HD suspension system.

I made a pair of loops out of some elastic I had on hand, wastband kind of stuff. Works great.  You could sacrifice a pair of Jockeys for the greater good .

A wire tie or a bit of duct tape to keep things from shifting and your good to go.

In my wooden pc case I mounted my 3 HDs to a normal rack, but I used small diameter bungie cord to isolate the rack from my case and added some foam rubber to damp any movement.  In addition, my large dia fans are isolated from the case using a similar method.  As long as I've not using the DVD drive, which now sounds like a tornado hitting a metal building, my remaining noise is air flow.  Wood damps away the noises of HD operation very well.

I have found that the rubber grommets from Directron are good enough if you use silent drives from Samsung, Hitachi or Seagate, but Stretch Magic is great as a suspension material, it's cheap, comes in several gauges and is available at art shops.
