That would be a GOOD disc if so!!

Not to hijack, but anyone find the remastered Car Wheels 2 disc set too bright? Haven't listened to the live disc yet, but the remastered '98 studio (disc one) is quite bright for my tastes...first listen only.

It would have to be better than World Without Tears. That sucked, in my opinion.

I do have her new one, "West", and I do think it is very good disc as well. Great sound to it. Much better than her last studio disc. Her voice is very distinctive. I was not sure what to expect especially after her last disc, but I do think her fans will like it. It is supposed to be coming out on 180gm vinyl as well....Enjoy

Haven't heard her newest release yet but what is it that so many didn't like about "World Without Tears". I am aware of Lucinda's previous releases but actually only own "World Without Tears" and "Essence". Just curious why many consider WWT so bad an effort. I wasn't listening too critically but I like the sound of this disc regardless of the content itself. I think it had this nice raw, less processed sound. But I haven't heard alot of her work on my audio systems.

What? That's a great album.

I'm curious about the new one too. I saw her here in Boulder last year and I think she did a couple from it, but I don't remember them.

She seemed very self-conscious on stage - like she was afraid people wouldn't like her music for some reason.

This one definately has a raw edge to it - reminds me more of Polly Harvey than the old down south country folk queen Lucinda. She seems to have been heading towards a more bluesy / Neil Young guitar sound (even a Cortez the Killer sounding track on this one) the last couple of albums which I quite enjoy (my wife longs for the old Lucinda though). Think Bill Frisell, another fave of mine is playing most of the guitar here and cool to hear him rocking out vs his solo country / jazz looping. Would love another fave of mine, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, to do something like this - attach an amp to that guitar - go electric Bob did!

I have seen Lucinda live a few times and think she is a shy performer (as noted in above post) and then she cranks up the guitar and something about that combination with the ultimate vulnerable vocal delivery that does it for me. Yep I'm a big fan and to date own everything she has done (except live album).

I bought "West" Saturday night and have listened to it twice so far, and both times I found it extremely satisfying. I own all of Lucinda's cds and my faves are Essence and Car Wheels. This one is right up there. I'm tempted to call it her best but will wait for a few more listenings before vaulting above the others. Definitely a wonderful cd and one that will get a lot of play in my household.

Go get it. You won't regret it!

What if I tell you it is a materpiece? Do you buy it then or let other reviews dictate what you like and buy?

What's the difference if I let other reviewers or what you think dictate whether I buy it or not ? The bottom line is that I have to like it , not anyone else . I have Car Wheels , Essence and World Without Tears but I'm not a completest , I don't need to have every one of her albums especially if the new one isn't on a par with the ones I already own . I like too many different artists and genres to be stuck on one .

I agree. Another great album. Her songwriting gets better and better. From what I've read, this album is greatly influenced by the recent death of her mother. One of the songs is about the absurdly high cost of funerals-not the the usual subject for pop songs.

But how do you know if you like it? I'm not a completest either. There have many times I come across someone new to me that I like and continue to buy more of there work only to find out I don't like it. My comment was that you said you wouldn't buy it because of too many bad reviews. Nothing personal.

Actually there are good reviews too , so it's a mixed bag . If I find a cheap or used copy I might pick it up . I might very well like it but right now there is other music that is calling my money and I really don't want to take a chance on " West ". If it was universally praised that would be another matter but all the bad and so-so reviews are a little disturbing .
