FM acoustic 155 vs Nagra PLL
« on: 18 Feb 2007, 06:16 pm »
I've heard the 155 and it is great, super speed and slam... what is the Nagra PLL like?

That depends on how you connect it.
It is best connected via the RCA connectors.
It is two very different pre-amps you have there.

The PLL will/should be better at microdynamics and timbre of strings and stuff.
The 155 is a transistordesign, and the PLL is a tube-pre... (you can tuberoll.)

But if you can afford the 155, get it. The PLL is a more smallscale music pre.
It's a studio playback monitoring pre.

They are both so neutral, you can't really tell them apart like that.
But I would guess that the PLL will be a more cool sounding pre, most likely a bit lacking in vocal range bloom on male voices (on the "oh" sound, chest growl you know...  :D ) ... just a pinch!

I'm a tubelover, but on the account of FM, I'd go for the 155 anyday!
