SP2 with analog DOLBY TrueHD ?
« on: 18 Feb 2007, 03:28 pm »
Hi all,

I'm soon gona have a european TOSHIBA HD-XE1 player (same as your XA2) and i was wondering how do you set the thing to use the 5.1 analog out of the player (with DOLBY TrueHD tracks for example) ?
Does the 5.1 in of the SP2 refers to the values you got in it (such as level, distances aso ?) or do you have to set this thing through the XE1 menu with a SPL meter ?

I heard some people complaining with the bass level on some HD-movies that isn't really as it should be when you use the analog out, so you would have to set the bass level higher. Any idees or somebody already using a A1, XA1 or XA2 with a SP1.7 or SP2 and could give me advices ???
James, what's your point on that ?

Thanks by advance...

The 5.1 analog bypass inputs of the SP2 are simply bypassed (straight through) clean analog connections.  No level or bass mgmt can be done on them, so all that tweaking, level-setting and subwoofer attenuation needs to be done at the DVD player source end.

Hi,

Reading the SP1.7 manual, i found that when you select 2 channel analog bypass you go in a total analog way BUT when you select the 5.1 input, you go in the DSPCORE (after the DAC) and get the LEVEL-setting adjusted by the SP1.7...
So you don't need to do this on the player !!!

Hi MOZ,

No difference between the SP2 and the SP1.7 upgrade to the SP2 except cosmetics.

So,

What is going on when you go thru the SP2 with a 5.1 analog in ?
Does it go thru the DSPCORE and gets to the levels (as i have already read on the manual) ?
It does refer to the number of speakers, their position aso ?

James,
I'm confused.  Why did you ask Moz if it was SP1.7 or SP2 if now you are replying that there is no difference?  It seems as if we missed a comment or post, because you are saying the SP1.7-converted-to-SP2 is no different than an SP2 except cosmetics, yet when you asked MOZ I thought you were asking whether he had an SP1.7 or had an SP2 (not an upgraded SP1.7).

Net/net, does the SP2 (however it got there) digitize or process any of the "5.1 bypass" signal?

Hi All,

The 5.1 Bypass does not allow for any level individual adjustments or bass or distance management. The 5.1 pass through does not go through the DSP core - it goes through the global analog level control only on the DSP board.

You must use the Level, Distance and Bass Management on the PLAYER.
