Online shopping for music
« on: 17 Feb 2007, 02:12 pm »

Are there any good reliable online sources to purchase music from. I'm not interested in the mainly audiophile sources such as Music Direct. I buy from Amazon quite a bit as they have most everything I want but sometimes the wait is very long. My last order will take 2 months for them to ship. Tower is gone. Any good sources?

Thanks

cd Connection  http://www.cdconnection.com

Burning Shed Music is a web site in England. Great selection of new progressive rock. Like Porcupine Tree, OSI, Tim Bowness, No Man...

yourmusic.com is a division of BMG that has fixed prices. They have a small'ish collection of music overall, but nice prices.
cdbaby.com has a good selection of indie music.
http://www.secondspin.com/ sells used CDs.
http://waterloorecords.com/ is a local (austin) independent record store. They have some good indie and local band recommendations

Tower still operates as an online business only, apparently.  I still get e-mails from them.

I think Tower is just trying to sell off what they have on hand. If you search for things they don't have much available.

Good topic, I'd like to see some people's inside connection to good CD deals.  I'd like to find a good site for new music for cheap.  The BMG's and other CD clubs have very little selection for my type of music, only about a 10% hit rate.

Right now, my best bet is buying off lala.com (for new releases, trade for others), which usually has about 90% of the CD's I am looking for typically in the $7.5 - 9.5 range. Amazon and half.com (selectively) are decent second choices.

J&R (jr.com) has a selection of CDs, especially classic rock, that are ~$6 but they don't have new releases for this price, just rereleases.
